There are several games similar to Atomic Heart for those looking for more. Hence, we’ve decided to list them out for you below conveniently!

Atomic Heart is an FPS game set in an alternate reality futuristic Soviet Union with extraordinary weapons and a visually rich world. It’s an interesting mix of sci-fi, FPS, and RPG rolled into one. With that said, let’s look at some titles that could evoke the same feeling and gameplay below!

From a techno horror angle, Observer: System Redux incorporates a dystopian world with a mind-twisting adventure. As with Atomic Heart, Observer: System Redux shares an entirely new world with sci-fi elements intertwined into its gameplay.

Within this world, players will get to play as neural detectives known as Observers. You’ll get to hack into other people’s minds to go through their memories. Your objective is to capture a dangerous killer. Furthermore, as you prod deeper into the dark crevices of your suspects, you’ll uncover all sorts of nightmarish scenes and mysteries.

The visuals and overall feel of the game are dark and gritty, like the minds you are about to explore.

Bioshock

Some players have noted that Atomic Heart has an intro sequence inspired by BioShock. In that sense, it would seem like a no-brainer not to be included on this list. BioShock is a legendary FPS game set in a dystopian underwater city with twists and turns in its storyline.

Since this is the first in the series, you have multiple titles to explore BioShock’s d2eep lore and plotline. The gameplay is intertwined with some great FPS action. For this first title, you’ll be filling in the shoes of Jack as he discovers the underwater city of Rapture. As well as tries to escape it. There are a few monstrous humans and bad guys to fight on your way out, so good luck.

The latest drop in the BioShock series would be BioShock Infinite. However, starting from the first title would be best to grasp what’s happening.

Generation Zero

Another first-person shooter but this time, there are some stealth and action elements mixed into it. Generation Zero is also an open-world game where you can play solo or drag your friends along for some warring fun against machines.

Just as Atomic Heart was inspired by the Soviet Union and World War II, Generation Zero is inspired by the Swedish Cold War. You’ll get to explore abandoned towns and cities in Sweden. You’ll also take on some mechanical forces that are invading your land. Aside from all the action, you’ll uncover the mystery behind these mechanical enemies as you proceed.

The game has a small-town vibe, but there’s nothing small about the experience you’re about to have. Generation Zero is one of those games similar to Atomic Heart that you should give a chance.

INDUSTRIA

Following hot behind the heels of Generation Zero, we have INDUSTRIA. This game provides a more atmospheric narrative set in Berlin right after the end of the Cold War. By atmospheric, it has a stellar soundtrack and a wonderfully designed world. This title is also another FPS that is narrative driven.

There is a twist to it, though. INDUSTRIA transports you to a parallel dimension in search of your missing colleague that has somehow disappeared under mysterious circumstances. On one end, the Berlin wall is about to come down, yet on another, you get lost in time and space.

Without knowing it, you’ll be spending hours in this game fighting against humanoid robots while trying to solve a mystery.

Ghostwire: Tokyo

Speaking of disappearances, in Ghostwire: Tokyo, the entire population of Tokyo has somehow vanished into thin air. The city is now overrun with supernatural creatures, and you’re one of the few people that can stop them. Additionally, you are granted some unique elemental abilities.

Ghostwire: Tokyo presents the beautiful city and all its landmarks, devoid of its bustling people. As you go around purging these creatures and forces, you are tasked with unmasking the person behind them and discovering their motives. In relation to Atomic Heart, both games bring a realistic environment to the table that is magnificently done.

Ghost-hunting skills and elemental abilities go hand in hand with this title as you explore the old and new parts of hyper-realistic Tokyo.

DOOM

DOOM’s composer, Mick Gordon, also worked on Atomic Heart’s. It would be a crime not to include Doom on this list, as id Software are pioneers of the first-person shooter genre.

DOOM is a never-ending pack of fun with its various modes and DLCs released over the years. This is also a great game to play co-op with your friends, as numerous multiplayer modes are available.

Although the DOOM franchise did die off for a moment there, a revival of the franchise did start with a reboot in 2016. The latest game in the DOOM franchise is DOOM Eternal, released in 2020. Either way, whether you decide to start from the original or the latest drop, DOOM is a great FPS that will blow your socks right off.

We Happy Few

Regarding graphics and characterization, We Happy Few dials the creepy levels up a notch. Although, it does make sense if you count in the fact that you’ll be playing in a drug-fuelled retrofuturistic city set in England during the 1960s.

As its name suggests, you’ll be dragged into a world where everyone is obsessed with joy and happiness. We Happy Few is an action-adventure where you must fight out of a delusional world filled with fake happiness. You’ll get to play through three characters and narratives, with storylines that interconnect with each other.

Plus, no two playthroughs of this game will be the same, as it is a procedurally generated world with permadeath involved. So you do everything from scratch every time you die and restart.

Cyberpunk 2077

There were a lot of mixed reactions to Cyberpunk 2077, but the game has definitely come a long way from what it was when it was released. Within this action RPG, you visit a gritty cyberpunkish world with cool modifications and memorable characters.

Aside from its branching storyline, Cyberpunk 2077 is filled with action and an immersive open world to explore. The latest version of Cyberpunk 2077 is an adequate option for those looking for another sci-fi cyberpunkish world to hop into, similar to Atomic Heart.

Only this time, instead of war and Soviets, you’ll be working the streets and thugs. Additionally, there are cybernetics and hacking involved as you attempt to survive.

Wolfenstein: The New Order

Switching out the Soviets with Germans in the 1940s with booming technological advances, we have Wolfenstein: The New Order. Within this timeline, the Nazis have also won the war, and you’re tasked with taking them down.

Wolfenstein is a tense action shooter that will get your adrenaline pumping as you infiltrate Nazi facilities and take on high-tech Nazi robots. As you go along, you’ll get to upgrade your weapons accordingly, getting more and more power and advanced tech. Aside from its thrilling action, the game has an interesting narrative bound to pique your interest.

Additionally, you can explore several other games in the Wolfenstein franchise if you’re looking for games similar to Atomic Heart. Note that due to its high depiction of violence, this game is rated 18 and above. As with most games on this list, you might want to check the age rating before proceeding.

SOMA

A sci-fi psychological horror game that is truly unsettling, SOMA is one of those titles that will stay with you long after you shut your screens off. Those with thalassophobia or fear of the deep, dark ocean should also stay away from this one.

You’ll be venturing deep into the Atlantic Ocean to get to an abandoned underwater research facility where deadly creatures and menacing robots continue to prowl. As you grapple with the story and its themes of self-identity and consciousness, don’t forget that this is still a horror game. Jumpscares are bound to happen as you fight for your survival.
