There are a lot of movies we watched at a young age that we fell in love with. However, as we’ve gotten older and wiser, we realize that they haven’t aged well at all. According to a recent online discussion, here are ten films from before 2000 that have aged poorly, but we love them anyway.

1 – Revenge of the Nerds

A comedy classic for sure, but the way the nerds enact revenge by spying on the sorority girls as they change hasn’t aged well today.

2 – Manhattan

The film features a 42-year-old Woody Allen dating a 17-year-old girl still in high school. No, it’s not a documentary.

3 – Waiting

While some people may view this as a poorly aged gross-out comedy, those that have worked in the service industry still appreciate the film starring Ryan Reynolds and Anna Faris.

4 – Pretty in Pink

The father is a lazy man-child, and Duckie is a stalker. Despite being a beloved classic, it’s filled with disturbing characters.

5 – Love Story

This is the definition of a movie that you fall in love with as a child and then hate as an adult. Its story is cute and romantic when you’re 13, but as an adult, you realize that the characters are all insufferable, rude, and entitled.

6 – Breakfast At Tiffany’s

Remember that time Mickey Rooney was cast as an Asian man? Yeah, that’s the definition of not aging well.

7 – Grease

It’s a classic musical with catchy songs and dance numbers, but have you listened closely to the lyrics and dialogue? Danny is a huge gaslighter, not to mention this lyric: “Tell me more, tell me more, did she put up a fight?”

8 – American Beauty

Look, I loved this movie when it came out. I loved it even more in college. However, where do we begin? There’s the whole “Kevin Spacey is in love with a high-school girl” plot, for starters, and that’s before you even address the Kevin Spacey-sized elephant in the room.

9 – Dr. No

Sean Connery may be the most iconic James Bond, but there’s no denying that the character was incredibly sexist until the 90s when Pierce Brosnan took over.

10 – 48 Hrs

The comedy starring Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte is good for some laughs, but the explicit racism from Nolte’s character.
