HBO
The popular premium cable channel has produced hit shows such as Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, and many more.
Yet after mergers with Discovery, the company decided to ditch the HBO brand and become “Max.”
Oldsmobile
In the late 1980s, the car company decided it needed a rebrand. It launched the “Not Your Father’s Oldsmobile” campaign to attract a new clientele. Instead, it alienated its existing customer base.
Tropicana
If you think of Tropicana, you think of orange juice. It makes sense that their logo incorporated this in some way.
It used to until a rebrand decided to make the logo incredibly generic. Any identity was lost as a result.
Angie’s List
The company is now called Angi and has to run commercials explaining who they are and that its business model has not changed. Great work, everyone!
The Family Channel – Freeform
The television station known for family-oriented programming has seen several names over the years. The Family Channel, Fox Family, ABC Family all make sense.
Today, it’s called Freeform because….it sounds cool?
Comcast
The cable giant is still officially known as Comcast Cable Communications LLC but rebranded to Xfinity in 2011 to avoid the negative connotation people had with Comcast.
Sci-Fi Channel
In 2009, the popular television channel decided to update its image. As a result, it was rebranded as “Syfy.”
I’m unsure what’s happening with these 2000s-era rebrands, but someone needed to be stopped.
University of Western Sydney
The college spent millions of dollars on a recent rebranding project. The result? Western Sydney University. Money well spent!
Gap
In 2010, the clothing icon decided it needed a rebrand. After spending millions of dollars, the result was a little lackluster. The new logo was the company’s name in a different font.
The logo reverted after six days.
After Elon Musk bought the social media platform, one of the first things he did was change the name. Twitter is now officially called “X,” even though several parts of the site, including the URL, still reference Twitter.
The Sears Tower
The iconic Chicago skyscraper may now be known as the Willis Tower, but everyone still calls it the Sears Tower.
