10 Teen Movies About Adults Ruining the Fun – The Older We Get the More We Agree With the Adult

It is easy to relate to the teens in a film when we are young. However, the older we get, the more often we start to see that the adult in the film had the right idea and was wrongfully looked down on. There are a lot of movies like this. We went to a popular internet forum to find the ten movies that are the epitome of “The Older I Get, the More I Agree With the Adult.”

1. Lilo & Stitch (2002)

In Lilo & Stitch, Lilo goes toe-to-toe with her older sister Nani quite a bit. While she isn’t exactly an adult yet, she is eighteen years old and in the custody of Lilo after the death of their parents. Lilo wants to be carefree and have fun, but Nani urges her to please not get in trouble. Lilo cannot seem to help herself, and while many young children will completely understand where she is coming from, Nani is clearly right here. All she wants to do is keep what is left of her family together. Lilo is in danger of being taken away and puts into the foster system, and Nani does not want that. It might seem like she is controlling and overbearing, but she just loves Lilo and does not want to lose her.

2. Dirty Dancing (1987)

In Dirty Dancing, Baby is told she cannot hang around the older Johnny Castle. However, she falls in love with him and constantly pushes the boundaries with her father to spend time with him. For older viewers, it is clear that her dad is completely justified in not wanting his teenage daughter to mingle with a creepy adult male camp dance teacher. No parent would be okay with this in the real world.

3. 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

10 Things I Hate About You delivers one of the truest lines in the history of movies, “You’re 18. You don’t know what you want.” This story follows two sisters; one wants a boyfriend more than anything else in the world but cannot date until her older sister does. Their dad comes off as unreasonable and crazy when enforcing this rule, but he isn’t wrong. I am almost forty, and sometimes I don’t know what I want.

4. Mean Girls (2004)

The fact that Regina George victimizes the other teens in the movie, as well as the teacher and principal, says a lot. They were just doing their jobs. In this movie, they are competent and nice adults, and yet somehow, many teens who watch the film feel that the kids in the movie are right. That said, there are a lot of younger viewers who relate to the adults from the start as well.

5. The Little Mermaid (1989)

In The Little Mermaid, Ariel wants to leave her home, become a human, and live with a man she has never met. Her father demands that she stay under the sea. Instead, she defies his wishes, makes a deal with a shady sea witch to give up her voice, and spends three days trying to make the man kiss her. She is a mere fourteen years old. There is no world where a parent would be totally cool with this, and while a younger audience might side with Ariel and her dreams of living on dry land, King Triton is very much in the right here.

6. A Goofy Movie (1995)

A Goofy Movie is all about Goofy just wanting to spend some quality time with his son, Max. Most teenagers will be able to relate to Max as he would rather hang out with friends and pursue the girl he likes. Adults know that Goody is doing nothing wrong here, though. Kids grow up way too fast, so any time you get with them is precious.

7. The Lion King (1994)

Simba is training to be king one day in The Lion King, yet all he wants to do is goof off. These shenanigans get him in serious trouble with Zazu, who is tasked with watching over him. Sure, as a kid, it is fun to run and play, but Simba’s actions cause a lot to go wrong. He then abandons his responsibilities and leaves the kingdom under the rule of his cruel uncle. Zazu might steam like a stuffy overbearing bird to kids. However, once you become an adult, you instantly realize that he is in the right here.

8. Twilight (2008 – 2012)

In the Twilight series, Bella is a young girl who leaves her home too often to hang out with some shady people. She literally spends her time with vampires and werewolves. So when her father simply wants to know more about these boys and what she is doing, she doesn’t need to snap at him as she does. He is looking out for his daughter and her well-being. Ultimately, she becomes a vampire, so realistically, he isn’t wrong.

9. Harry Potter (2001 – 2011)

Harry Potter and his friends push the boundaries a lot in the film series, but the “boy who lived” also consistently thinks he knows best. He tries to warn Dumbledore about Snape many times, only for the headmaster to smile and nod. Adults almost always know what is going on, what is REALLY going on, well before the kids do. And while you might relate more to Harry, Ron, or Hermione, as a younger viewer, older ones will understand the feeling of a child demanding you to look closer when you already know what is truly going on.

10. Juno (2007)

In Juno, the teen audience often perceives Jennifer Garner’s character as uptight, controlling, annoying, or even as a “square.” However, the older you get, the easier it is to realize that she is a mature adult who wants what is best for her family. Her husband is immature and a bit creepy regarding his relationship with Juno, a pregnant teenager. Juno was also in the wrong here, although easily manipulated by him.
