As kids, we got excited over the smallest things. Sadly, some of those things no longer exist for today’s kids to experience.

Spoons From Cereal Boxes
Cereal itself is pretty great. It’s even better when you’re eating it with a cool spoon you got from inside the box. Whether it was a wacky color or themed after a new movie you were excited about, you felt like the coolest kid in school eating breakfast with your cereal box spoon.
Home Phones
Technically, these are still around in some households. It’s becoming more and more common, however, for people to forgo having a landline completely. The days of yelling, “Somebody get the phone!” or slamming a phone down after an angry conversation are gone.
Nickelodeon Game Shows
Do you remember Legends of the Hidden Temple or GUTS? I sure do, and I miss them every day. Whether it was Double Dare or Nick Arcade, these game shows were appointment viewing for me as a child.
Toy Stores
Whether we’re talking high-end stores like FAO Schwartz or local places like Toys-R-Us, kids today will never experience the thrill of walking into a toy store. From toys to trains to video games, it was indeed the greatest toy store there was.
Thankfully, a handful of FAO Schwartz locations still exist.
Christmas Bonuses
We’re not going full Clark Griswold here. My last job had a Christmas bonus that was just a coupon for the company’s apparel store. I’m not sure if that’s better than membership in the Jelly of the Month club.
MTV Playing Music
For a channel called Music Television, MTV doesn’t play much music anymore. They’ve instead leaned in on reality TV. On occasion, though, the channel will play some music videos from past and present.
Pluto Being A Planet
Most adults remember learning about the nine planets in our solar system: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.
Today’s kids only learn about eight planets; Pluto was “demoted” in 2006.
Cheap Fast Food
Remember the McDonald’s Dollar Menu? Burgers, Fries, and other goodies were available for just a buck. Today, the same items cost upwards of triple the old cost!
Blockbuster Video
We didn’t have streaming services back in my day! If we wanted to rent a movie, we went to one of the several (yes, several) options available. The most well-known was Blockbuster video. A Friday afternoon here meant you were in for a good weekend!
Physical Photo Albums
Today’s photo albums are all online. Whether it’s on Facebook or Instagram, you can view photos from friends and family digitally.
However, physical photo albums were like a coffee table book back in the day. You would flip through them and see the developed photos from trips, vacations, or hanging around.
