There are many mounts in World of Warcraft, with more being added with each new patch. Some of these mounts are criminally underrated and deserve to be in the spotlight. Here are ten underrated mounts in WoW.
Of course, this is just our opinion on some of the coolest mounts that deserve to be shown off, and you may find that other mounts suit you better. We’ll cover mounts through the game’s history, including up to the current Dragonflight expansion.
10. Smoldering Ember Wyrm
This is a gorgeous mount and relatively easy to get, too. It will take a little bit of work, but getting this underrated mount in WoW is a great prize for your efforts. This is also a timed effort, so you have to be quick with the steps you take to get the Smoldering Ember Wyrm.
To get this mount, you have to complete Karazhan on Mythic difficulty. In the dungeon, you have to collect crystals. You have eight minutes to get to the first crystal before you proceed to the Opera hall.
Make your way to the audience hall, clear the mobs, and get the first crystal. Go into the room on your left before the maiden to get the second crystal.
Run and jump over the ledge into Moroes’ room. Kill Moroes and get the third crystal.
Exit the room and go down the stairs to the front yard. Go into the spider room on the left. Make your way to the top right and get the fourth crystal.
Click the teleporter to go back to the starting area. Go down the hall and kill the Curator. Get the final crystal.
You have five minutes to make your way to the image of Medivh. Jump down the stairs and the ramp, go straight ahead, and it’s in the first door on the left of the balcony.
Talk to Medivh, complete the cutscene, and kill Nightbane! Then, you will get your hands on the mount.
9. Thundering Jade Cloud Serpent
Thankfully, this mount isn’t as hard to get as the Smoldering Ember Wyrm. It still requires a little work, but the payoff is worth it. To get this mount, you need to get the Glory of the Pandaria Raider achievement. This will unlock the mount and allow you to purchase it from the guild vendor.
To get this achievement, you have to kill Will of the Emperor, Empress Shak’zeer, and the Sha of Fear on Heroic difficulty with your guild.
8. Squeakers, the Trickster
Squeakers is an adorable mount. Unfortunately, purchasing this mount from the in-game store is the only way to obtain it. It will cost you $25 at full price. Squeakers is magical, has cute green wings, and can perform some precious party tricks! I couldn’t not include him on this list.
7. Pureblood Fire Hawk
You may have to grind a Raid for a little while to get the Pureblood Fire Hawk, as it has a 1% drop rate from Ragnaros. Luckily, this mount drops on either Normal or Heroic, so you can pick which one you run. It won’t increase your chances by much if you do it on Heroic, but you might get some other cool gear as you run through the Firelands.
6. Antoran Charhound
It is a timeless classic that will always be one of my favorite mounts. It is criminally underrated, but it is also a pain to obtain. If you weren’t running this raid when it was current content, you have to deal with significantly lower drop rates now.
To get this mount, you have to kill F’harg in Antorus, the Burning Throne. This boss appears in Light’s Breach, the first wing of the raid. It can be obtained from any difficulty, so you don’t need to worry about trying to do this raid on Mythic if you don’t want to. The drop rates are relatively low, so it may take some time to get your own Antoran Charhound.
5. Mail Muncher
The Mail Muncher is a great mount and isn’t used very often. It is a bit tricky to get, as it has a low drop rate right out of the gate and requires you to return to BFA content. To get this mount, you have to do the Horrific Visions in Orgrimmar, click on the mailboxes around the city, and hope the Mail Muncher appears.
4. Beastlord’s Warwolf
This mount is fairly easy to obtain. It just requires you to save up a lot of Timewalking Tokens. This does, of course, mean running Timewalking dungeons. Obtaining this mount will cost you a whopping total of 5000 Timewalking Tokens.
To purchase this mount, speak with Kronnus in Warspear or Tempra in Ashran, depending on your faction.
3. Wildseed Cradle
Obtaining the Wildseed Cradle will require some work, but it’s straightforward. You just have to find Twinklestar’s five missing tools in Ardenweald. Then, you have to combine them to make Twinklestar’s Gardening Kit and return them to her in Tirna Vaal.
Luckily, all of her tools can be found in the Garden of Night in Ardenweald. To pick up the objects, you have to interact with them, and then they will go into your inventory.
You can find the Diary of the Night on the elevated platform in the tree, sitting on a table. The Gardener’s Hammer is located inside the cart. The Gardener’s Basket is on the ground near the fountain’s edge. The Gardener’s Flute is on the ground, with a group of Spriggans dancing around it. Finally, the Gardener’s Wand is found under the cart, which can be tricky.
Combine one of the items in your inventory into Twinklestar’s Gardening Kit and return it to her to receive the Wildseed Cradle.
2. Clutch of Ji-kun
It is a very majestic mount that will take you a while to farm. This mount comes from the Throne of Thunder raid in Pandaria. To get a chance at the mount, you have to kill Ji-Kun. The drop rate is very small; you must complete the raid on Normal or above.
Be prepared to farm this for weeks, maybe months, potentially. The drop rate is horrendous, but the payoff is worth it.
1. Drake of the North Wind
This mount is a rare drop from Altarius in Vortex Pinnacle. Depending on your preference, you can run this on either Normal or Heroic difficulty. Unfortunately, this mount also has some pretty rough drop rates, so you may be in for a grind unless you get lucky.
That’s our list of ten underrated mounts in World of Warcraft that you can obtain. Some of these are more difficult to get than others, but they are all worth the effort. Good luck, and we hope the drop rates are in your favor!
