Everybody has that one friend who is terrible with money. Sometimes, it’s hard to tell. According to an online discussion, however, these are ten easy signs of someone making terrible financial decisions.
1 – Constantly Asking For Emergency Money
Sometimes they don’t have the money for rent. Other times, it’s for car repairs they can’t afford. There’s always a million reasons why they need money right now. Have these people ever heard of a savings account?
2 – Misplaced Financial Priorities
If you’re a parent, you need to make sure your kids have proper clothes, shoes, and other essentials. You should prioritize that over custom rims and wheels for your car. And gambling isn’t going to save your financial issues, either.
3 – Driving A Car Way Above Your Means
Look, we all want to drive cars that have insane curb appeal. However, a car payment that costs more than you make monthly is generally not a sound financial decision.
4 – Putting Everything On A Payment Plan
If you’re shopping online, you’ve undoubtedly seen payment methods such as Afterpay or Klarna that let you pay in installments. If you’re relying on this to purchase things you, in all honesty, don’t need, then you probably can’t afford it.
5 – Making Impulsive Decisions After Getting Paid
Payday is great! There’s money in your bank account, and you can save some of it for future expenses. Or, if you’re bad with money, you get to make frivolous purchases.
6 – Never Paying Rent But Always Going Out
I’m pretty sure we’ve all met someone like this. Are they paying rent? Can’t afford it. A new tattoo, a night at the bar, a fancy dinner, that’s all things they can afford.
7 – Taking Advantage Of Other’s Generosity
One person had a story to share.
“A family member of mine has been begging money from everyone. He says they don’t have enough money for food/rent/fuel for his wife to get to work, or tires. We own a tire shop and offered him a set of used tires for $40 if he would help mount them (a job he’s familiar with). He said he didn’t have $40. He goes to my sister-in-law and says he needs to make money for tires. She starts paying him daily for doing some remodeling work for her. He informs her on day three that he won’t be available for the next two weeks because he is going on vacation to New Orleans.”
8 – Getting Into Debt Because You Buy Top Of The Line Stuff
You don’t need to be an early adaptor of the new PlayStation or have designer clothes. You don’t always have to buy name-brand groceries, either. Just make sure you’re spending within your means.
9 – Making Risky Financial Decisions
You may think you’ll be in a better position in the future, but nobody has a crystal ball. If you constantly make risky decisions with your money, there’s a good chance you’ll pay for it.
10 – You Own A Bored Ape NFT
How’s that “investment” going for you? Not well, I assume.
11 – Signing Up For A MLM/Pyramid Scheme
It seems like a great way to get rich fast, but they’re called schemes for a reason. MLMs are something you should always stay away from.
12 – Carrying Longterm Balances on Credit Cards
It may seem like a good idea to save money in the short term, but the interest will eat you alive.
