Occasionally, a character’s on-screen performance is so annoying you want to strangle them. They’re aggravating in the worst possible way, which is a testament to the writing and their performance.

A recent online discussion lists the most annoying television or movie characters. Here are some of our favorite responses.

The Boom Mic Guy – The Office

After the departure of Michael Scott, The Office saw a dip in quality. One reason is the storyline featuring Pam and the boom mic operator for the documentary crew.

Not only did this come out of left field, but nobody likes the guy, either. Too many people were on team Jim and Pam.

Mrs. Carmody – The Mist

Few deaths are as satisfying as Mrs. Carmody’s.

Marcia Gay Harden’s performance in the Stephen King novel is incredibly memorable.

Everybody knows someone like Mrs. Carmody

One reason is because of how relatable she is. Despite how incredibly insufferable the character acts, everybody knows someone like her in real life.

Buzz – Home Alone

Kevin McAllister’s older brother is exactly what you expect. He’s a conniving little weasel who excels at getting Kevin into trouble.

You can argue semantics about who’s at fault for causing trouble in the first Home Alone. In the sequel, however, it’s clearly Buzz’s fault.

Joffrey – Game of Thrones

The illegitimate Lord of the Seven Kingdoms is the definition of insufferable. Jack Gleeson’s performance elevates Joffrey above just being a spoiled rich brat.

His ego is larger than all of Westeros, and his actions result in nearly everybody hating in. That includes both characters in Game of Thrones and the show’s fans.

Ted Mosby – How I Met Your Mother

Despite being the show’s protagonist, many fans have come to hate Ted Mosby. His victim complex and nice guy attitude have made him one of the most annoying characters on television.

We can’t say for sure whether or not the nickname “Ted Schmosby” is a coincidence. Regardless, it’s a great way to describe Ted. But, unfortunately, he’s not as great of a person as he thinks he is.

Jar Jar Binks – Star Wars

Designed initially as comic relief, Jar Jar Binks is anything but. Instead, he is one of the most annoying characters in movie history.

Jar Jar Binks has limited screen time in future installments of the prequel trilogy. While we can’t for sure say this was in response to the audience’s reaction, it wouldn’t surprise us.

Jenny – Forest Gump

Moviegoers have strong opinions on Forest Gump’s love interest. Many view Jenny as someone who uses Forest as an emotional crutch for her entire life.

Robin Wright’s Performance is memorable

Actress Robin Wright elevates the character. Chances are we wouldn’t find Jenny as annoying without Wright’s talent.

Wesley Crusher – Star Trek: The Next Generation

One of the most famous examples of an annoying character is Wil Wheaton‘s Wesley Crusher. The line “Shut up, Wesley” has grown popular with Next Generation fans.

Despite the hate mail the studio received, some people enjoyed seeing Wesley Crusher. In addition, younger viewers were glad to relate to someone their age on the Enterprise.

Ross – Friends

While many fell in love with the cast of friends, one character, in particular, stood out as incredibly unlikeable: Ross.

What’s the problem with Ross? He’s a whiney jerk that can’t laugh at himself. He’s also incredibly passive-aggressive and has a penchant for making dumb choices.
