The newest Assassin’s Creed game promises to return to the franchise’s roots, but we may have to wait a little longer than anticipated.

Announced earlier this year, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the official successor to 2020’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Gameplay promises to be more linear and story-focused, honing in on stealth action-adventure like the original Assassin’s Creed games.

The game stars the assassin Basim and takes place in Baghdad. Alamut, the headquarters of the Hidden Ones, will also be featured. Beyond that, however, not much is known about the title.

Those hoping to get their hands on Assassin’s Creed Mirage will have to wait a little longer. While Ubisoft was originally hoping to release the game in Spring 2023, Insider Gaming reports an August release is more likely. In addition to the slight delay, the game will ship at a lower price point.

Mirage will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, PC, PS4, and Xbox One for $49.99. The reasoning? Mirage is reportedly a smaller game than recent Assassin’s Creed titles.

As for the cause of the delay, the report mentions that other Assassin’s Creed games in development were having issues that the team needed to cover. TheGamer also reported that several employees left the project due to allegations of abuse.
