Assassin’s Creed Remake Teased At Ubisoft Event

Assassin's Creed remake

Out of all previous Assassin’s Creed games, the only main entry still unplayable on current consoles is the original. The 2007 action game saw Altaïr eliminate nine targets during the time of the Crusades, and also introduces players to Desmond Miles. While Ubisoft re-released entries involving Ezio to modern consoles, the very first game is still inaccessible. That is set to change however, with rumors suggesting the existence of a remake. Join us as we look at the potential for an Assassin’s Creed remake.

Is There An Assassin’s Creed Remake?

If rumors on social media are anything to go by, Altaïr’s adventures claiming the Apple of Eden could return soon. This gossip began after yesterday’s (June 15) livestream commemorating the franchise. During it, Ubisoft played a sizzle reel charting the series’ history. One notable inclusion was footage from the first game, with some notable tweaks.

As per fanpage AccessTheAnimus on Twitter, there are a few pointers in the video. Firstly, the footage of Assassin’s Creed looks different to the original release, with improved definition. On top of that, Ubisoft shared a new logo for the game, complete with the ‘Ubisoft original’ branding the company now uses. Most significantly, a dedicated celebration to the first Assassin’s Creed game is scheduled for September 2022. This is the same month as another Assassin’s Creed event, where we expect to see new titles. As such, it would make sense for a remake to debut there.

Of course, none of it is definitive proof just yet. However, it seems unlikely that Ubisoft would emphasize the original game so heavily if it didn’t have something in store. Altaïr’s entry in the series has long been ignored within wider series continuity. Aside from an appearance in Assassin’s Creed Revelations, he’s one of the more under-used protagonists. As such, a remake would not only bring him back to the fore, but also evoke some nostalgia within the series. Critics have long claimed that the franchise has delved too far from its roots, so what better way to return than remaking the first game?
