A new clip from Battlefield 6 confirms the futuristic setting teased by previous leaks. The short snippet comes from the official Battlefield account, which is teasing an upcoming announcement on June 9th.
The reveal comes just days before E3 starts on June 12. This suggests DICE won’t deliver any Battlefield news at the expo. A message on the official Battlefield website announced the “countdown to the reveal of the next generation of Battlefield.” Unsurprisingly, this effectively confirms a next-gen release. This statement lines up with comments from Oskar Gabrielson, General Manager at DICE, who called the game “jaw-dropping,” saying it uses “the power of next-gen consoles.” The Battlefield franchise always focuses on large-scale battles and dynamic destruction, and early pointers suggest this upcoming entry will continue that trend.
The 10-second clip on Battlefield’s Twitter announced the reveal for June 9th, at 7am PDT and 4pm CEST. The teaser also shows the classic Battlefield logo, slowly glitching with digital ticks, aligning with leaks about the game’s near-future setting. They show a high-tech and colorful HUD from gameplay, slightly different from Battlefield 4‘s present-day setting. Other leaks have pointed towards the game featuring robots and drones as enemies, with more machine-based combat than previous entries. The slightly glitchy, electronic-based teaser lines up very accurately with these rumors.
Despite Gabrielson’s praise of next-gen consoles, EA confirmed last month that the game will launch for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This is the same strategy as 2013’s Battlefield 4, which released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 alongside the newly-released PS4 and Xbox One. To accommodate the new hardware, Battlefield 6 is set to increase lobby sizes to even larger than Battlefield V’s 64-player lobbies. Equally, Gabrielson teased “game-changing destruction,” suggesting even more destructible buildings and environments than before.
With just over a week to go, it won’t be long until Battlefield 6 is fully revealed. At this rate, it seems set to revolutionize the first-person shooter genre.
