Super Smash Bros Ultimate

Number of Players: 1 – 8

Sometimes, the best kind of games to play in order to bond are fighting/brawler games. You get to see a whole new competitive and different side of those around you that you were never aware of. Plus, Smash Bros is all good fun! The characters are familiar, and each has its unique quirks.

Everyone is a wild card, much like the characters in the game. It’s also relatively easy to play.

Personally, I’ve witnessed countless newbies button-mashing their way through the game and making it to the top, so it truly doesn’t matter what age you are. Super Smash Bros is a great choice for any situation.

This is a great option for a large group of people.

Overcooked 2

Number of Players: 1 – 4

You know how they say friends that cook together, stay together? Well, Overcooked will have you screaming at each other as you maneuver moving platforms, toss cooking ingredients and scream at your friends to ‘CHOP THE VEGGIES!’ throughout the night.

It takes a whole lot of teamwork and coordination for you to receive a 3-star rating on each level. It’s a great team exercise for sure, especially if you’re specifically looking for a video game team-building option. Just be prepared for a whole lot of yelling.

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes

Number of Players: 2 and above (there doesn’t seem to be a limit)

Does your life lack stress? Do you crave the adrenaline rush of being close to death? Then, we’ve got the game for you! Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes places you and your friends in a room with a ticking bomb. One of you has to diffuse it while the rest of your fellow players need to navigate the game’s convoluted instructions.

It’s a real test of communication and patience and failure to work well with your team members will cause the bomb to explode and you’ll all be dead! With its many symbols and wires, you’ve got to make sure you get it right or it will go boom in your face. .

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Number of Players: 1 – 12

Everyone’s go-to party game, Mario Kart! It would be impossible to make a list without including this gem, so here we are. We all know what it is, and even after years and countless recreations, Mario Kart is still a game that stands the test of time.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has everything! The intense competition, the sabotage of the blue shell, the countless screaming as you course through Rainbow Road… Mario Kart brings memories and nostalgia (even if they’re not always great). And after countless versions and updates throughout the years, Nintendo has most likely perfected the formula.

We recently went through the process of ranking every Mario Kart 8 track from worst to best. It took us over 1,000 hours to reach that point so it’s sure to keep you and your friends and family members engaged in fun gameplay for a very long time.

Ultimate Chicken Horse

Number of Players: 2 – 4

Admittedly, this is a weird game, which you can probably already tell from its title alone. But honestly, weird games make the best party games.

The objective is simple: get the red flag. However, to get to the objective is pretty much hell. All of the levels you’ll be going through will be personally designed by each of your friends and in order for them to win, you have to fail the level.

It’s a whole lot of sinister fun and you can get as stupidly creative as possible. The game works like a sandbox, with all sorts of platforms, items, projectiles, etc. for you to manipulate for your victory.

Gang Beasts

Number of Players: 2 – 4 (goes up to 8 in online mode)

Take up the roles of some colorful blob figures dressed however you like and fight it out to the death! Gang Beasts is a ridiculous fighting game with some wacky physics that’ll have you clinging on to the littlest things to survive.

It’s a whole lot of fun to diffuse tension and if you’re feeling extra mad at someone for stealing the last piece of pizza, just give them a wobbly punch in-game!

You can pick up other characters and throw them, kick them in the face with blob-like legs and fight in weird or dangerous situations (like on top of moving vehicles). One thing’s for sure, a lot of laughter will ensue.

Rocket League

Number of Players: 1 – 8

It’s football with rocket-powered cars. Rocket League does fall on the more arcade-y side of party games, but it’s good if you have a lot of people around for a gathering. You’ll be split into two teams of four people, and you just need to start hitting a big ball into a goal to get points.

Of course, since its launch, there have been more modes and quality updates that make it more fun. With the different modes, gameplay won’t be stale and it would be a fun way to challenge your friends and their skills.

If you’ve ever lost a real-world soccer match to your friends, winning this could actually be a form of redemption.

Drawful 2

Number of Players: 3 – 8

If you’re familiar with Pictionary, then Drawful 2 is a step up from that. It takes your usual drawing game and fills it with some super random prompts. It’s a fun game to decipher what other people have drawn and to see how your friends interpret certain prompts to reach correct answers.

It’s also a simple game that is easily understood by players of all ages which means you can play it. You can rope in your whole family during game night or break it out during a birthday party and you are sure to have a blast! You don’t even need a PC or big screen to play it, simply connect with your phones or tablets and have a go. Did we mention that there won’t be an eraser or way to delete what you’ve drawn? Good luck!

Moving Out

Number of Players: 1 – 4

The stress of moving out is now hilariously doubled in Moving Out as you and your partner attempt to move everything from a house to the moving truck with wobbly characters. Expect chaos and mayhem to ensue with the option to just simply throw things around when you get frustrated with the game’s physics.

You’ll have a lot of fun or frustration with this one as you figure out the right angles to move certain objects and maneuver a crowded space with a big item. A lot of yelling will ensue while some 80’s synth beats play in the background.

Super Mario Party

Number of Players: 2 – 4

The source of many sibling rivalries arises from playing Super Mario Party, which has now existed for a pretty long time. The objective is to win more games and collect more stars to see who is the ultimate winner in the end. There are all sorts of mini-games and challenges for you to pick from, so may the best player win!

If you feel like being a little extra, there are other modes you can try out as well. You can even pair up and go 2v2 with your friends to add more spice. This will test your communicative skills and connection between partners, but most importantly, it’s just a lot of fun!

Castle Crashers

Number of Players: 2- 4

If you’re into beat ’em ups and want to get your friends in on the action, Castle Crashers is a good introduction. Mainly because their first experience won’t be a lonesome one, and you can show them how it’s done with more flair. Castle Crashers has a bloody, chaotic 2D visual and several modes for you to try your hand at if you’re feeling confident.

You can play in teams through arena mode or you can say goodbye to decorum and let all hell break loose in a free-for-all. If you’re looking for a more chill bonding experience you could try out their campaign, which is a bloody mess but a more structured one.

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout

Number of Players: 1 – 60 players (in online multiplayer, you’ll play with a lot of people at once)

If you’re looking for something more colorful and laughter-inducing, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout might be the one for you. You, your friends, and a whole bunch of other people compete with each other to pass through levels of mini-games or stay alive through some challenging levels.

Basically, it’s who can stay alive and make it through the longest, because this game is not going to be on your side. It’s a whole lot of fun because each level is different and brings a new challenge for you to go through. If your friends are competitive and love a challenge, Fall Guys is a good game to run. At the end of the day, the ultimate goal most of the time is to be the last person standing.

Fall Guys also features new seasons on a regular basis and with those new seasons are new levels, plus new individual and team-based challenges!

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime

Number of Players: 1 – 4 players

A space shooter where you and your friends pilot a spaceship with different stations in it. Each station controls a different and important part of the ship. You and your friends need to constantly be on the move in order to keep everything balanced while protecting your ship from enemies that are out to get you in space.

It’s fun, it’s intense, there will be screaming –  but coordination is key to a game like this. Your relationship with your friends will be better for it too.

That’s You

Number of Players: 2 – 6 players

If you’re looking for an ice breaker or a game that would help you get to know someone better, That’s You can do the trick. It also puts people on the spot, so make sure everyone is comfortable with that beforehand. You’ll go through different topics with several questions and you’ll have to pick someone that you think best fits the question.

Everyone places bets on who they think it is, and more points are given if everyone agrees with the same person. You can also do rounds of different activities like drawing your ideal date or having to vote in a game of who’s most likely to fit the bill. Anyone can be included in the game as you can use your phones or tablets to play as well. It’s a great game with a simple premise that anyone can pick up on quickly.

Final Thoughts

I hope that satisfies your need for some party games! These are certified games to make your nights rowdier and bring the people around you closer together. Great ice breakers that would make even the quietest around you squeal!
