Are you looking for the best tanks in Dragonflight? We’ve got you covered.

Going into the new World of Warcraft: Dragonflight expansion, tank players will want to know if their tank spec is viable in their damage mitigation, their physical damage, and how well they can protect the rest of their team.

This list will discuss the latest update for Dragonflight pre-patch and the best tanks for Dragonflight. Will you have to re-roll going into the next season, or are you going to be one of the top damage dealers on the team?

S Tier – World of Warcraft: Dragonflight Tanks

Protection Warrior

A lot is going for Protection Warriors for World of Warcraft: Dragonflight. They are stronger than ever going into the next expansion based on their mobility, number of defenses, and damage. They’re the total package, making them one of the best tanks in Dragonflight.

They have it all going for them. While they don’t feel hugely different from their playstyle in Shadowlands, they perform better. Protection Warriors have a lot going for them this season, as Shield Block has more uptime than ever, and they have a lot more passive defensive abilities in the new talent tree.

Protection Warriors have a significant amount of self-healing tools now. They can negate much damage with abilities such as Champion’s Bulwark and Shield Charge, which can be used together. Impending Victory and Indomitable will be great for those who want to dabble in self-healing tools and feel the power and ruthlessness of Protection Warrior in World of Warcraft.

Vengeance Demon Hunter

Vengeance Demon Hunter is another solid pick for the best tank going into Dragonflight. They have a lot of damage and a more structured rotation going into the new expansion, and they’ll see less of Spirit Bomb and more of Void Reaver and Frailty. They have a lot of new offensive and defensive capabilities from pre-patch and going into Dragonflight. Despite losing significant uptime on Metamorphosis, they have abilities such as Fiery Brand and Soul Cleave.

While some players are concerned because it means they’ll be using a lot less of Spirit Bomb, there are new abilities on the horizon that still allow them to have incredible ferocity by using Fiery Brand and Fiery Demise. It’s a good time to be a Vengeance Demon Hunter in World of Warcraft

A Tier – Best Tanks for Dragonflight

Protection Paladin

Protection Paladins are still one of the strongest tank choices you can play. Players must be aware of a few big changes for Prot Paladins going forward that may make their rotation feel marginally different. For example, Avenger’s Shield no longer grants Holy Power.

This shouldn’t be a big issue if your Paladin is high level with plenty of haste, but it may be difficult for those just starting to level one. That’s why I have Protection Paladins as one of the best tanks for Dragonflight.

There is now a slew of options for Protection Paladin to play with for damage mitigations, such as Eye of Tyr for a short cooldown defensive, Improved Ardent Defender, and Barricade of Faith. There will be a lot of choices to be made. It’s obvious that going into Dragonflight, Blizzard wants their primary role to be the defender rather than doing a whole host of damage.

Blood Death Knight

Blood Death Knight hasn’t changed much to the relief of players. They still rely on runes, self-healing, and shadow damage. They are incredibly powerful going into Dragonflight but have some important playstyle changes.

For example, Coagulopathy and Icy Talons will now be very important runic power usages in the future, and now there will equally be a focus on Death and Decay.

In the future, there have also been a lot of buffs and cooldown reductions for Blood Death Knights, meaning they have a lot of defensive capability going into Dragonflight, making them a viable option as a great tank.

B Tier – Dragonflight Tanks

Guardian Druid

Guardian Druids are an excellent choice and have the potential to move up this list. This is because they have just received a huge 50% buff to their damage to abilities such as Mangle, Brambles, Thrash, and more.

Their Ironfur has also received an additional 4% buff, which is looking good for those Guardian Druid players out there. They have a lot of good aura damage and damage mitigation going forward as one of the best tanks for Dragonflight.

C Tier –  World of Warcraft: Dragonflight Tanks

Brewmaster Monk

Brewmaster Monk is still a viable pick for being the best tank for Dragonflight, but not as good as some others. Those who play Brewmaster Monk also expect to face many changes for Dragonflight.

The spec has changed significantly, as there is now a new slew of offensive and defensive cooldowns to learn to manage. For example, one of the best talents Brewmaster Monk has going for them right now is Rising Sun Kick, as it does an incredible amount of damage. They have a lot of tank viability with new self-healing skills, such as Strength of Spirit and Healing Elixir.

All in all, Brewmaster Monk is very strong, but there is a lot to learn, and it can be very confusing for those returning to the spec or even those who are new to the game and have chosen Brewmaster to learn.
