Bethesda Drops New Starfield Gameplay + More

Today at the Xbox + Bethesda Showcase, Game Director Todd Howard showed off a ton of new gameplay footage and a look at some of the upcoming features in Starfield. In May, the game was delayed until the first half of 2023, but today’s glimpse is a good way to keep our thirst quenched as we await Starfield’s release.

Bethesda’s new blog post says the game takes place in 2330 when “you join Constellation, the last group of space explorers seeking rare artifacts throughout the galaxy.”

We got a glimpse at the extensive character creator for Starfield. Players can customize a myriad of elements and create exactly who they want. The new gameplay trailer showcases the ability to change skin tone, body size in various ways, and even your walk style.


Like many Bethesda games that came before it, Starfield will include crafting. You’ll be able to gather resources to build your own ship, base, modify weapons, and more. And once you make that ship? Take to the stars and fly!

Starfield’s world looks to be huge and ambitious. A glimpse is given at planetary exploration. In the showcase, Howard says, “It’s not just this planet, it’s all the planets in the system… and not just this system, but over a hundred systems, over 1,000 planets, all open for you to visit.”

Starfield arrives exclusively on Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2023. Play it on day one with Xbox Game Pass. Earlier this year, rumors broke that we might even get a beta version to test. Only time will tell.
