As you start your journey into Chivalry 2, you’re going to run into a massive customization menu. All of the four different classes in Chivalry 2 have a huge list of tools and gear for you to use in combat. So, as you start putting together sets, you might be wondering, what are the best weapons in Chivalry 2? What setups should you use to take on the hordes before you? Our guide will explain what each weapon does and what setup you should consider as you wade into battle.
Chivalry 2 Best Weapons List
Because each class in Chivalry 2 has unique weapons in its toolset, each class has a different loadout for the best weapons. This guide will explain what each weapon feels like, and will hopefully allow you to tell what weapons and armor you should bring into combat.
Archer Best Weapons
The Archer is the primary long-ranged class in the game. Because of that, we suggest that you use the Bow and the Short Sword. The Bow will teach you how to aim while having a good attack speed, and the Short Sword has decent range and damage when things get dire.
Primary Options
- Bow, consistent and long-ranged damage.
- Crossbow, the slower brother of the bow. The improved range and accuracy is a nice touch.
- Javelin, a closer-ranged option that hits like a truck… And also looks hilarious.
- Throwing Axe, a much heavier javelin.
Secondary Options
- Knife, quick and painless.
- Hatchet, solid damage at a reasonable rate.
- Short Sword, a quick option with a good reach that can cut someone down… If you’re lucky.
- Cudgel, for attempting to beat through the armor of a Footsoldier coming through.
- Axe, which can take down enemies with a few clean hits, if you can dodge or block well.
- Falchion, a meatier Short Sword without as much weight as an Axe.
- Mace, a slower but stronger Cudgel.
Shield Options
The Archer only has the Light Shield, which might be able to block an enemy attack or two. It comes out quick, at least!
Footman Best Weapons
The Footman is the fastest melee class with a preference for middling damage, good range, and high speed. Because of that, we recommend the Spear and the Hatchet as its best weapons. The Spear is the Footman’s specialty and has absolutely absurd range. The Hatchet is good for chunking meatier enemies that get too close for your Spear.
Primary Options
- Halberd, the default Footman weapon. Great reach and damage but slow as all heck.
- Polehammer, the bludgeoning version of the Halberd. A bit slower as a result.
- Spear, great reach and speed of attack, without quite as much damage to back it up.
- Glaive, like a Halberd in almost every way. Better against infantry.
- Sword, fast and easy to use.
- Morning Star, the quicker bludgeoning option, though by no means is it fast.
- Falchion, a solid sword with good weight behind it. Compared to a normal Sword, it hits harder but is slower.
- One-Handed Spear, good for range and speed… Great even! The lower damage can be compensated for.
- Sledgehammer, the hefty bludgeoning option. Lacks the speed of the Morningstar, however.
- Shovel, a fun weapon with surprising speed and damage.
- Pickaxe, another fun one, though this one is slower than the Shovel.
Secondary Options
- Knife, the fastest and weakest of all secondaries.
- Hatchet, good for chunking while still being a good secondary.
- Short Sword, like a longer and deadlier knife.
- Cudgel, for a quicker bludgeoning option.
- Axe, in case the Hatchet wasn’t slow enough. Hits surprisingly hard.
- Mace, a slower bludgeon, but compensates enough with damage.
Shield Options
The only shield the Footman has is a Medium Shield, which is sturdier than it sounds.
Knight Best Weapons
The Knight is a middle-ground between Footman and Vanguard. Because of that, we recommend using the Messer and the Morningstar. The Messer will decimate lighter armor enemies, while the Morningstar will allow you to take on Vanguards and Knights with a shield in hand. For a throwing weapon, the Hatchet is a good weapon for flanking and getting damage off on enemies who didn’t see you coming.
Primary Options
- Longsword, the heavy, two-handed and hand-and-a-half weapons. Because they’re big, they’re slow but have stellar reach.
- War Axe, the meaty but middling strength axe. It’ll pack a huge punch while not being as slow as the Executioner’s axe.
- Heavy Mace, the two-handed crushing damage weapon. Great when you need to break armor or stamina, but pretty slow, and lacks some of the damage of the other weapon types.
- Pole Axe, a weapon that combines speed and reach. Not as damaging as some of the other Knight options.
- Warhammer, your crushing option. Swings fast for a hammer option but lacks the dismemberment chance of your other options.
- Axe, hits hard but is slow for a one-handed weapon. Not bad if you want to pack a punch!
- Falchion, a fast and ruthless sword, but not quite the same speed as your fastest choices.
- One-Handed Spear, gives you reach and speed like the Pole Axe, with even more reach! Shame the damage is so damn low.
- Messer, a brutal blade, though a faster option than a Longsword. Doesn’t hit as hard as a result.
- Battle Axe, a smaller version of the War Axe that will still bring your opponents down a peg. Better for faster engagements against enemies with lower armor.
- Two-Handed Hammer, like a heavy mace but with better range and worse damage.
- Executioner’s Axe, the deadliest but slowest axe of all.
Secondary Options
- Sword, a quick dueling option during desperate times.
- Mace, the fastest bludgeoning choice. Good for skirmishing.
- Hatchet, a small axe that can quickly chop someone down. A slower secondary, but still good for skirmishes.
- Short Sword, for when a Sword is just a touch too slow and a touch too much damage.
- Morningstar, the other bludgeoning option, but with a little more heft and power behind swings.
Throwing Weapon Options
- Knife, faster and less damage.
- Axe, hits like a truck but takes longer to throw. Better for when you have the flank on someone
Shield Options
All Knights use Heavy Shields, which are hugely customizable in cosmetics but not in stats.
Vanguard Best Weapons
The Vanguard is the beefiest, heavy-hitting class, but lacks defensive options. To help aid with that, we suggest using the Dane Axe and the Throwing Mallet as the best weapons. The Dane Axe is a great middle-ground axe between speed and range, while boasting great damage. The Throwing Mallet is good for flanking and dealing big damage to an unexpecting enemy before a fight starts.
Primary Options
- Battle Axe, a brutal and slow weapon
- War Club, a hammer option with great range and decent speed, but lacks the damage you might expect from a two-handed bludgeon.
- Executioner’s Axe, which is a touch slow but makes up for it in damage.
- Greatsword, the heaviest sword option in the game, and hits hard.
- Maul, the heaviest hammer option, and packs a mean punch. It’s super slow, though, so be careful.
- Dane Axe, a good middle-speed and damage axe with good range. All-rounder.
- Two-Handed Hammer, the middle-ground two-handed bludgeon. A great choice to test out the weapon group.
- Glaive, which boasts range and speed compared to the Vanguard’s weapons.
- Dagger, an incredibly strange primary for the Vanguard. Great if you’re mostly dealing with low-armor classes.
- Short Sword, a quick but low-damaging option.
- Hatchet, a meatier one-handed option but lacks the ranged and damage of your big weapons.
- Cudgel, the smallest bludgeoning weapon. Still packs a surprising punch!
Secondary Options
The only Vanguard Secondary is the Knife. Weird, right? Shank someone with glee!
Throwing Weapon Options
- Mallet, good damage and speed. Hits relatively hard.
- Knife, much faster than the Mallet, though barely tickles most classes.
