There are a lot of crafting ingredients that you can collect in Conan Exiles. Depending on your area, you will always have a pretty reliable source of farming weapons and armor. Obviously, as you head into the frozen tundras of the exiled lands, ice becomes more prominent. Black ice is one of the more powerful materials to come from the northern regions of Conan Exiles. If you want to live on the mountains, or are just looking for actually solid armor, then our guide will help!
How to Get Black Ice in Conan Exiles
In order to mine Black Ice, head to the Frozen Slopes and the Temple of Frost. There are Black Ice cystals dotted between the two landmarks, and you can mine them to get the shards that you’re looking for. There are also many nodes of ice inside of the Temple of Frost itself. It’s a dangerous but more profitable area, and you need to go into the Temple of Frost if you want to make weapons out of ice.
Black Ice has a prerequisite before you can use it effectively: You must enter the Temple of Frost and learn Frost Smithing. This can be learned by touching a Lorestone located behind Hrungnir of the Frost’s throne. This will teach you Frost Smithing, but be ready: You’ll have to get through Hrungnir of the Frost first, and he is not happy to see you.
Once you learn Frost Smithing, you can access the Forge of Ymir to start crafting with it. Black Ice is used in many crafting recipes. It makes the Black Ice weapons, requiring 20 of the substance for non-Ammunition type weapons. You can also make the Pride of Aesir set with Black Ice, Star Metal Bars, Alchemical Bases, and Perfected Medium Padding.
Other than weapons and armor, you can use the ice to smith Hardened Steel Bars and Star Metal Bars. You can also build some rather stylish decorations for your base. Especially good if you want cold insulation!
