Conan Exiles’ latest update has introduced a new mount to the game: Horses. These new mounts will provide additional protection in combat, allow you to traverse the world quicker, and gives a massive XP bonus just for riding them around. Taming them can be a bit of a process, but if you follow this guide, you should be able to figure out where to find and how to tame a horse with little to no issues.
How to Tame a Horse in Conan Exiles
Taming horses is similar to taming any other creature in Conan Exiles, requiring you to first find a foal and raise it. Locating a foal isn’t difficult at all. They are commonly found roaming around grassy biomes near water sources, like rivers and lakes. The bodies of water in 8H, 9G, and 9F on the map are all good places to look near.
There are three kinds of foals to find: Regular, sturdy, and swift. Which kind you find has no meaningful effect on the type of horse that will be produced, so no need to be nitpicky about the foal you choose. Once you find one, grab it and carry it back to your stable. You must be Level 15 before you can tame this foal, but you require Level 20 to be able to ride a horse anyway.
To grow your foal into a rideable horse, you need to feed it. The preferred foods to be feeding your foal are, from best to worst, Asura’s Glory, Leavening Agent, Hops, Shadespiced Highland Berries, Grey-Flower Lupine, Desert Berries, Seeds, Vines, Bark, and Highland Berries. Once you’ve fed the foal enough, it will grow into an adult horse. The next step in learning how to tame a horse is crafting a saddle.
Crafting a saddle requires two feats: The Novice Saddle-maker feat and the Armorer feat. The Armorer feat can be earned at Level 10 with the Stone Tools feat and the Weaver feat, and you should already be at a high enough level if you’re trying to tame a horse. Once you have the Armorer feat, you craft the Saddler’s Worktable. This will require 80 Wood, five Twine, and 50 Leather. With your new worktable, you will be able to get a Novice Warhorse Saddle at Level 20 for the price of two Twine, four Iron Bars, and five Leather.
Once you’ve doubled your rank to Level 40, you can craft a Medium Warhorse Saddle for two Twine, four Thick Leather, and four Steel Bars. Finally, at Level 60, you craft a Heavy Warhorse Saddle for two Twine, four Hardened Steel Gars, and one Steel Reinforcement. With your saddle created and your foal all grown up, you can mount the horse horse and take off.
