Dreams Uncorporated’s upcoming turn-based JRPG Cris Tales has finally been given a release date. Players will be able to get their hands on the game starting on July 20, 2021. The game will release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Series X/S, and PC.
Confirmed today by publishers Modus Games, the Cris Tales release date arrives in just over three months. With a gameplay demo out now, players can try the game out before its wide release. Modus Games also released a new release date trailer showcasing the game’s signature anime-inspired graphics and sleek 2D side scrolling layout complemented by turn-based combat.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jumlr4gBUxYDeveloped by Dream Uncorporated and SYCK, Cris Tales puts players in the shoes of Crisbell, an orphan who encounters a magic frog and discovers she has a bevy of eloquent powers. While honing her abilities, the village she lives in is raided by a group of fearsome goblin bandits. These foes work for the Empress of the Ages in a plot to take control of the Crystallis Kingdom. With her newfound powers, Cris realizes she now has a higher purpose: To defend the world she’s grown up in.
Dedicated followers may recall that Cris Tales’ gameplay demo originally came out in July 2020. Though admittedly short, it served as a simple way to introduce players to the game’s turn-based combat and the charms of the Crystallis Kingdom. However, since then, news from Modus Games has been very thin on the ground. Thankfully, today’s news will come as a very welcome surprise to players who have been waiting patiently.
Touted as a ‘love letter to classic JRPGs,’ and inflected with game design based on Colombian architecture, there truly isn’t an RPG on the market quite like Cris Tales. With just a few months left to wait until release, it’s shaping up to be an experience unlike any other.
