With the new Delicious Last Course DLC out now, it’s no surprise that players are heading back into Cuphead. The intensely hard retro shooter is renowned for its tricky boss battles, so playing online co-op with a friend could be the remedy. After all, there’s no better way to tackle a tough fight than with a friend in tow. If you’re wondering whether Cuphead has online co-op, we’ve got the answer!
Does Cuphead Have Online Co-Op?
Unfortunately, Cuphead does not have online co-op. There is a multiplayer component to the game, but that comes in the form of local co-operative play instead. As such, if you’re struggling with a tough boss, especially in the new DLC, you’ll have to team up with a friend offline.
It’s certainly a shame, because a game like Cuphead is tailored to the co-operative experience. The new DLC, titled The Delicious Last Course, even adds a new playable character to try out. It seems like a no-brainer that developer Studio MDHR would add online co-op multiplayer to adapt to that. However, fans will be disappointed to learn that it’s not the case.
Equally, it doesn’t seem like any sort of online multiplayer will ever arrive to Cuphead. As the name suggests, this new DLC is the final expansion to the game following its 2017 release. As such, if there was going to be online co-op, it would’ve arrived by now.
Given the old-school nature of Cuphead though, it doesn’t come as too much of a surprise. The game deliberately harkens back to times gone by with its retro aesthetic. As such, only including couch co-op is a neat way to remind players of the split-screen era. Nonetheless, it’s understandable that some may be miffed to learn they can’t do battle with extravagant bosses with a friend.
As such, Cuphead may not have the online co-op many players desire. However, it’s still good to see an offline co-op mode, to ensure collaborative gameplay lives on.
