Multiverse theory has inspired a lot of speculation, especially when it comes to game universes. Bethesda has had a hand in many huge titles involved the subject. Well, it looks like two of them are more closely connected than they first appeared. Dishonored and Deathloop were released many years apart, with seemingly only limited similarities. Fans picked up on the clues, and set out exploring their theories. Now, the idea has been confirmed. Bethesda confirmed that the two games, their worlds, and their characters are all part of the same connected universe.
The Deathloop And Dishonored Universe
Dishonored came out in 2012, while Deathloop released almost a decade later in 2021. Though the games released so far apart, they are apparently set in the same universe. Speaking to Gamespot, the director of Deathloop, Dinga Bakaba, stated that the team, “envisioned Deathloop to be happening in the future after Death of the Outsider.” He’s referring to the most recent entry in the Dishonored series, in which the primary goal is for the player character to assassinate a god-like being known as the Outsider. However, it’s still unclear how far in the future Deathloop takes place from that event.
Both Dishonored and Deathloop have proven to be popular games with similar mechanics. Both have you playing the role of a professional killer caught in the middle of a dangerous situation. Deathloop has you killing various targets while navigating through a time loop. Dishonored, on the other hand, has you wandering through a magic-tech world killing high-profile figures. Both are first-person games that give you a wide range of tools and weapons, although the special power of Deathloop is time manipulation while that of Dishonored is magic. If these games truly are connected, one can only imagine what occurred in the time between that transformed the world and its physics so greatly.
Deathloop and Dishonored are two successfully separate titles published by Bethesda, but now it’s clear that there’s more between them. Although it’s been confirmed that they’re in a connected universe, it’s unknown how this may come into play in either of their futures.
