How to Get Exotic Ciphers in Destiny 2

How to Get Exotic Ciphers in Destiny 2

You can consistently get Exotic Ciphers in Destiny 2 by doing Xur’s weekly Xenology challenges. The merchant known as Xur only appears between Friday and Tuesday and will spawn in either the Nessus, the EDZ, or the Tower.

To get his Xenology challenge, go to the second page of his inventory and pick up the quest. This quest tasks you with completing a certain number of playlist activities, a set number of times. Which in the past has typically been, complete 21 Strike completions, Crucible Wins or Gambit Wins. Once you’ve completed this quest, head back to talk to Xur and he will grant you one Exotic Cipher for your efforts.

However, there are a few things to note. You can only cash in on Xur’s weekly Xenology challenges, once a week. That means once you’ve cashed it between Friday and Tuesday, you’ll have to wait for Xur to reset on the following Friday to complete his quest again. However, by routinely doing his tasks, you can steadily get one Exotic Cipher a week. Which you may as well spend each week since you can only ever carry one on you at a time. If you try and cash Xur’s quest while you already have an Exotic Cipher in your inventory, you will just get the XP.

Additionally, you get one Exotic Cipher once you reach level 55 on the free Season Pass. This will remain in the Season Pass until you claim it, so best save it for when you direly need one. Once more, make sure you don’t already have an Exotic Cipher in your inventory when you claim it! If you do, it will get destroyed. Which is the last thing we want to happen, knowing how valuable Exotic Ciphers are.
