Destiny 2 Subclasses - How to Unlock

Destiny 2 has been an ever-changing game since its debut back in 2017. The game goes through many shifts both on-screen and off, with Bungie implementing adjustments along the way. With new Guardians joining the fight on a daily basis, it can be difficult to keep up with the updates. One of the transformations in the game actually adheres to the subclasses for the characters, since they aren’t obtained in the same fashion as before. Things are a little different when it comes to getting subclasses, but we’ll explain more in the text below.

How to Unlock Subclasses in Destiny 2

To unlock subclasses, play through the initial New Light quests in the Cosmodrome when starting up a new character. Progress through the first stages of the game until you eventually reach the Tower, where you’ll speak with Zavala, Ikora, Devrim, and other essential NPCs. The player will then be assigned their first strike to complete. After finishing up your first strike, you’ll return to the Tower to speak with Zavala. In turn, he’ll inform you about Ikora and what she can do for you in regards to the subclasses. She’ll offer the “Spark of Hope” quest before providing the subclass quests for your Guardian.

From what it seems, each primary class receives different quests from Ikora depending on their absent subclasses. You start off with one, but the two remaining quests will gift you with the other focuses. Complete your given quests, and the two additional subclasses will then be yours.

The only exception is the relatively new Statis-based subclass where requirements aren’t exactly the same. Instead, in order to get the Statis subclass for your Guardian, you’ll need to defeat the final boss in the Beyond Light expansion. It’s the first Dark subclass that Guardians can acquire, and it acts as the new power set for players to experiment with.

Season 17 revamped many features for Destiny 2, including the aforementioned New Light campaign. It essentially reinforces the game as a whole, with immediate availability for all Guardians around. The New Light quests are a solid route for players to explore, for both returning and newer Guardians.

Season 18 is upon us, along with the surprises that we’ll be seeing when it debuts on August 23. Be sure to check out more guides on Destiny 2 before Season 17 comes to a close!
