Destiny 2 - What Is Pinnacle Gear?

The climb continues! Destiny 2‘s newest season has dropped, and thus the newest Pinnacle cap has risen! Right now, we’re looking at a 1570 Light Level, and you can get there through a couple of weeks of grinding per character. What are the current methods of getting pinnacle gear in Destiny 2? And, for newer players, what does that even mean?

What Is Pinnacle Gear in Destiny 2?

Pinnacle Gear in Destiny 2 is the highest Light level gear currently in the game. In most cases, this gear will be very slightly above your current power level by +1 or +2, but will quickly ramp you up to the level needed to complete the highest rank of dungeon. Most Pinnacle Gear sources are weekly rewards from specific events and, sadly, do drop for random slots. However, they will all need to be cycled through if you want to get your main class to full power as quickly as possible.

Currently, here are the ways to get Pinnacle Gear drops in Destiny 2:

  • Vow of the Disciple Raid
  • Duality Dungeon
  • Sever Seasonal Quest
  • Vox Obscura Exotic Quest
  • Nightfall: The Ordeal
  • Trials of Osiris
  • Weekly Raid
  • Weekly Dungeon
  • Gambit Matches
  • Vanguard Ops
  • Clan Weekly XP from the Tower
  • Dares of Eternity
  • “Legend” Glory Rank
  • Weekly Campaign Mission on Throne World
  • The Wellspring on Throne World

Other than the “Legend” glory rank, all of these activities can give you a higher power level every week. Some of them will only barely bump up your level, but they all will give you usable loot over time.

The Vow of the Disciple raid is a must do mission for players wanting to grind up Pinnacle Gear. This requires a Fireteam, but will get you four rewards that will boost up your level. In order to access the raid, you simply must perform the Throne World story to the point where the raid unlocks. Then, every week, you can get this massive boost in gear score.

In addition to Pinnacle Gear, there is also Powerful Gear. Powerful Gear is much more common, but only goes up to a cap of 1560. This is still enough to perform most of the game’s content, and is much more accessible to players!
