Diablo 2: Resurrected has a lot of quality of life improvements over the original, but other functions haven’t been adjusted. While many of the new changes are great, some of the things that stayed the same make our head spin. The Respec Token, or the Token of Absolution, is required in order to get a new build in Diablo 2. But, once you have one, where do you bring it so you can respec? And where can you get them in the first place?
How to Use Respec Token to Reset Stats and Skills
In order to find and use a respec token in Diablo 2, you’re going to need to get far, far into the main story. On Hell difficulty, each of the Demon bosses – Andariel/Duriel, Mephisto, Diablo, and Ball – drop a different kind of Essence. By combining these essences with a Horadric Cube, you can craft a Token of Absolution, which you can then use to respec your stats. In addition, the quest Den of Evil will allow for a respec, but only upon quest completion, and not respawning.
While the Den of Evil quest allows for a respec, the Token of Absolution is an on-the-fly option. However, this also requires your build to be able to farm Hell difficulty bosses… without a respec. Most builds, no matter how scrambled, will be able to take down Hell bosses eventually.
These Essences are not guaranteed. The bosses that you must farm are as follows:
- Twisted Essences of Suffering: Andariel and Duriel
- Charged Essence of Hatred: Mephisto
- Burning Essence of Terror: Diablo
- Festering Essence of Destruction: Ball
Once you have one of each, put them in a vertical line in the middle of the Horadric Cube. Then, transmute, and you can right click the Token of Absolution to reset your stat points.
It might be a good idea to farm a few of these on your Hell-slaying build before swapping to theorycrafting. You wouldn’t want to be locked into a potentially bad build path!
