Does Cyberpunk 2077 Have Multiplayer?

Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer

Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most long-awaited games to drop in recent gaming history, no doubt thanks to the game’s numerous delays. The game promised to be the first true next-generation title for the newest consoles and this new decade. CD Projekt Red, the game’s developer well known for single-player experiences like The Witcher series, promised to bring that same magic to Cyberpunk 2077. Still, gamers have been wondering: does Cyberpunk 2077 have multiplayer?

Does Cyberpunk 2077 Have Multiplayer?

Does Cyberpunk 2077 let you play with other gamers? The short answer is no, at least not yet. For now, there’s no multiplayer mode, meaning there’s no way to play with other human players. But that’s not to say that a multiplayer mode won’t be added in time.

Despite the game’s developers being very quiet about multiplayer, there are rumblings of some kind being in the game. CD Projekt Red stressed multiple times that the single-player of Cyberpunk 2077 would include zero microtransactions. This kind of statement, while refreshing, naturally leads a lot of gamers to think that some kind of multiplayer will be included. This would likely — and unfortunately — include microtransactions.

During a Q&A call with investors back in January, CD Projekt Red hinted that it’s unlikely multiplayer will be ready until 2022. Cyberpunk 2077 was due to launch in September then, and the studio’s publishing head Michal Nowakowski said that “2021 appears unlikely as a release date for the Cyberpunk multiplayer.”

It looks like the game’s multiplayer may actually be delayed for longer than the single-player. Still, it does make us wonder how it could work. There are two roads that CD Projekt Red could potentially go down. The first is a traditional PvP style with modes like deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and Domination. We could also see a cooperative horde mode where players work together to fight off waves of enemies. A co-op heist mode would also be something that could be interesting if done well.
