In addition to “in-person consumer components,” whatever that means, digital showcases will be part of E3 2023. It is unclear if that refers to the press conferences that take place in the days before the actual convention or the online showcases that have filled the gap during COVID.

The ESA is also partnering with ReedPop, a company that specializes in event production. ReedPop runs conventions such as Star Wars Celebration, New York Comic Con, and the Penny Arcade Expo.

“We are thrilled to bring back E3 as an in-person event with ReedPop, a global leader in producing pop culture events,” said Stanley Pierre-Louis, president and CEO of the ESA. “The past three years have confirmed that E3 convenes our industry like no other event.”

No date has been set for E3 2023 at this time; typically, E3 has taken place in mid-June. Media registration is scheduled to begin later this year.

It is unknown what companies will take part in the convention next year; Nintendo has been keen to do their own thing recently. Sony did not participate in E3 2019. If we do indeed see an E3 2023, there’s a chance it looks very different. Only time will tell.
