Elden Ring | Best Rune Farm Locations

The Lands Between in Elden Ring offer many challenges and discoveries for the Tarnished to stumble upon. Along their journeys, they must continuously level up as they progress through the regions of the game. As one quest bleeds into another, the more Runes that one must accumulate. Therefore, after many hours spent in FromSoftware’s latest game, we’ve found a few worthwhile locations to farm Runes. From actual slaying areas to killing just one dragon, here are some of the best Rune farm locations in Elden Ring.

Best Rune Farm Locations in Elden Ring

Elden Ring Best Rune Farm Locations

We’ll go over a few locations in Elden Ring that can provide promising results for significant Rune intake. These include Limgrave, Liurnia of the Lakes, Atlus Plateau, and Caelid. Whether you’re just starting off or you need a few extra thousand Runes, these locations will fulfill your needs to level up. We don’t exactly have certain recommendations on how to approach these areas in regards to your character build. Just be sure to have an effective weapon at hand, flasks at the ready, and maybe some backup to speed up the process.

As a side note, we recommend consuming the Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot to boost your Rune acquisition by 30%. The effect lasts for only three minutes, but it’s an extremely convenient tool to use. You’ll need 3 Rowa Fruit, 1 Four-Toed Foul Foot, and 1 Gold Firefly to craft one, as long as you’ve acquired the Missionary’s Cookbook [2] from Patches. In addition to the Gold-Pickled Fowl Fruit, attaching the Golden Scarab Talisman is also highly suggested here. We’ve covered it before, but you can get it by defeating the two Cleanrot Knight bosses within the Abandoned Cave east of the Smoldering Wall Site of Grace. The Talisman will increase your Rune intake by 20%.

Limgrave

If you’re starting out in Limgrave, there is one fun area where you can ride around with Torrent and swing away. Directly south of the Warmaster’s Shack Site of Grace and north of Stormgate will be a few wandering trolls. Don’t let their size intimidate you: they’re slow, and you’re swift. While mounted, gallop away and swing at the trolls’ legs. Not only will they eventually stumble but the other trolls will want a piece of the action. It’s here where you can freely ride away and watch as the giant fiends accidentally hit each other. Keep going at this, and you’ll be rewarded with 1,000 Runes per fallen troll. Evidently, if you want more, you can always rest at the Warmaster’s Shack to give the trolls another round at this Rune farm.

Liurnia of the Lakes

Elden Ring Farming Runes

This Rune farm is probably the most enjoyable since you can simply watch enemies battle each other for your literal benefit. Indeed, just north of the North Liurnia Highway Site of Grace will be two different kinds of foes fighting to the death. It’s just before you hit the Gate Town Bridge, and it’s hard to miss the scene since they’re in the middle of the road. Try to keep a safe distance while approaching the chaos just in case one of them catches you within their sight. Do this, and the Runes will start to flow in. Of course, you can join on in, but that’s entirely up to you.

It’s also important to note that if you start approaching the tunnel leading to the Gate Town Bridge, a troll knight will drop into place. Defeating this big guy will give you a hefty amount of Runes for your efforts, so make sure you summon some help if you’re in a rush to get back to farming.

Atlus Plateau

If you’re looking for an easy caravan to take down, look no further than the Road of Iniquity Side Path Site of Grace. It’s sort of toward the middle of the three Windmill Pastures and east of the Shaded Castle. Just outside the grace point will be a transporting enemy caravan heading southwest. It’s being patrolled by a pumpkin, two trolls, and several soldiers. Deal with them as you please, and you’ll begin to see the results flow in.

Attacking this specific group of enemies is also good practice when it comes to dealing with multiple different kinds of foes at once. Of course, once the fighting concludes, feel free to rest at the grace point to do it all over again. Also, don’t forget to loot the caravan itself. Behind the cargo will be a chest containing the spiky Great Stars hammer.

Caelid

Elden Ring Farm Runes in Caelid

One of the more popular Rune farm locations to attend to is the open area in Caelid where agile militiamen patrol the land. To reach this spot, you can actually take the waygate at the Third Church of Marika. This ensures smooth transport without having to go through most of Caelid’s festering trouble. The waygate will then drop you off at the Bestial Sanctum, the site of Gurranq, Beast Clergyman. It’s also seemingly guarded by Black Blade Kindred, the giant field boss standing amid the steps. All you need to do is ignore him completely in order to enter the open Caelid field.

Another thing to point out is that this area is northeast of Dragonbarrow, near the Flying Dragon Greyoll on the bridge. Stay north of the bridge and south of the Bestial Sanctum, then indulge yourself in slaying the militiamen. Each kill guarantees more than 1,000 Runes, and you can summon some spirits to help you take care of business. Once you can’t find any more tiny enemies, rest at the Bestial Sanctum Site of Grace and repeat the process.

Honorable Mention

As a quick bonus, we have one additional spot for you to check out. Also in Caelid, head to the Fort Faroth Site of Grace near Sellia Highway. A little bit to the west lies the massive Elder Dragon Greyoll. This colossal beast barely moves, giving you plenty of freedom to slash away at her. But keep in mind, she does have children protecting her – dragon children. Although they’re smaller in size compared to their mother, they’re still trouble. That’s why we recommend just going for mama dragon herself.

While utilizing a weapon with a bleeding effect, attack the Elder Dragon’s lower left side beneath her wing. You can strike her rib cage, leg, and tail with no trouble from her protectors. She will roar as a call for help, but the lesser dragons won’t be able to spot you. The only downside: you have to keep swinging at her for quite a small yet tedious amount of time. But we’re here to farm! So slash away, and you’ll eventually receive 50,000 Runes, five Dragon Hearts, and the Elder Dragon Greyoll’s Roar. Well done, Tarnished!
