Bad news today, as FromSoftware delayed the much-anticipated Elden Ring. Initially slated for a January 2022 release, the game will now release in February. Luckily it’s only a small four-week delay. However, fans desperate to get their hands on the fantasy RPG will certainly be disappointed. There is a silver lining, though, as a beta was announced, set to take place next month.
Elden Ring Delayed To February 2022
Yes, the long-awaited Elden Ring will need a little more development time before it’s ready to launch. Previously bookmarked for a January 21, 2022 release, it’s now set to launch on February 25. It’s a minor delay, which FromSoftware put down to development issues. In a statement released on Twitter today, the studio said the game’s scale “exceeded initial expectations.”
However, a delay of just a few weeks is certainly a good sign. 2021 has been the year of big-name delays. More often than not, they’ve been substantial ones, too. Deathloop went from a May 2021 release date to September – and was a better game for it. Since the Elden Ring delay is much shorter, you can assume there’s less that needs tweaking. Of course, after the debacle of last year’s Cyberpunk 2077, most fans would prefer to wait for a polished game rather than play something full of bugs.
Nonetheless, Elden Ring fans will definitely wish they could speed up time. The long-awaited game finally comes after years of rumors and anticipation. It was first announced at E3 2019, before years of radio silence. This was broken with this June’s Summer Games Fest, where a reveal trailer dropped. The game unites Director Hidetaka Miyazaki with Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin, for a fantasy epic.
Luckily, there was a glimmer of good news. A console-only network test was announced to take place in November. It’ll take place from November 12-15, with gamers able to apply through a ballot.
While nobody likes to hear about delays, it’s good for fans that it’ll only be a few extra weeks. Elden Ring is still coming as hoped – just slightly behind schedule.
