Elden Ring Hoarfrost Stomp | Where to Find

Elden Ring Hoarfrost Stomp

As a favorite of Elden Ring streamers and speedrunners, the Hoarfrost Stomp is regularly spammed during their runs, and for good reason. It’s a wickedly powerful skill that has been shown effective in taking down many of the game’s powerful enemies relatively quickly. We’ll show you where to find it in our guide below.

Where to Find Hoarfrost Stomp in Elden Ring

Hoarfrost Stomp location

You can find the Ash of War for the Hoarfrost Stomp skill in a pond southeast of Caria Manor. There’s a barely visible Teardrop Scarab in this pond. Attack the glowing footsteps it makes and it will drop this Ash of War.

You can also find the Hoarfrost Stomp as the default skill of the Icerind Hatchet. You will find this in the Temple Quarter, in the small collection of islands southwest of Raya Lucaria Academy. One should preferably just find the Ash of War itself, as it can be bound to any melee weapon.

There’s a reason why this skill is used so heavily. It does a ridiculous amount of area frost damage and can be spammed rather quickly. So much so, in fact, that FromSoftware saw fit to effectively nerf this skill as of the 1.03 patch.

As detailed in this video by Firespark81, the changes made to the skill are significant. While the patch notes only state a longer cast time and decreased damage, the true changes seem to be much more. While the cast time is roughly the same, the spread of the frost spikes are slightly slower.

Also, the term “decreased damage” does not properly convey the level at which developers cut this skill’s power down. It now only does approximately 50% of the damage it used to. One thing the patch notes failed to declare entirely is the skill now uses almost 3x the amount of stamina. In spite of these changes, this is still a solid skill to have in your arsenal.
