How to Burn the Thorns in Elden Ring

To burn the thorns behind the Elden Throne, you need to offer kindling at the Forge of the Giants. This event is critical to the plot in Elden Ring, and will happen naturally as you progress through the game. You’ll be given the option to burn the thorns when the time is right.

Players who are unaware of what to do next if they’re lost might be surprised by the following steps. After speaking with Melina, she’ll give you a Rold Medallion, an item that’s critical for your entry into the Mountaintops of the Giants. Your next destination is to reach the Forge of the Giants, which just so happens to be guarded by the Fire Giant. Defeat him, then you’ll have access to the forge. Meet with Melina at the Site of Grace and talk with her.

To avoid any spoilers, Melina will ask you to commit a “cardinal sin.” Do what you will, then a big scene will transpire. Afterward, your character is transported to the Crumbling Farum Azula area. From here, you’ll need to slay Maliketh, the Black Blade in order to continue the story. Afterward, the Royal Capital will go through some changes; by then it’ll be time to return to the door by the Elden Throne.
