Elden Ring - How to Level Up

Elden Ring is an RPG. Because of that, your stats matter quite a lot. Like many RPGs, having lower stats will lead to a much more difficult time. While Elden Ring does have a few items that can compensate for a lower level, that doesn’t mean you should ignore your numbers! If you want to level up in Elden Ring, we can help you find out how to unlock it!

How to Level Up in Elden Ring

You’ll unlock the ability to level up in Elden Ring when you first rest at the Gatefront Ruins Site of Grace. To get there from the first site, simply follow the road down from the start through the woods to get to the Ruins. The Site of Grace is west from the ruins. Be careful of the Tree Sentinel, as it is a late-game enemy that can be found and fought very early on.

By resting at this Grace, you will meet your Maiden, Melina. She will grant you the ability to level up by resting at any Site of Grace by going to the Level Up option.

Leveling up in Elden Ring takes a scaling number of Runes. It starts in the thousands and will quickly rise to the tens and hundreds of thousands.

In the early game, it is recommended that you focus on leveling up one or two “offensive” stats, like Strength, Dexterity, or Intelligence. These are required for some early weapons, so choose one based on your preferred play style. Then, you’ll want to level up defensive stats. Vigor is raw health, Endurance will allow you to wear armor. Having 20 Vigor will allow you to consistently take 2 hits from boss enemies even into the midgame. This is, of course, based on your current armor class.

Elden Ring is about much more than just leveling up your character, though! You’ll also need to get gear and build up your stats through other means. Check out some of our guides for some awesome early-game weapons!
