Players from around the world are jumping into Elden Ring, the mystical world built by George R.R. Martin and FromSoftware. With a new world to explore, and the same difficulty that players remember, doing enough damage to a boss is one thing, but also being agile is another. You’ll need to manage weapons on the fly. Fortunately, you can swap between wielding a weapon in one or two hands. Here’s everything you need to know about how to two hand a weapon.
How to Two Hand Weapons in Elden Ring
It’s easy to two hand a weapon in Elden Ring. First things first, you’re going to want to have a weapon equipped that can be wielded in two hands. Then, hold Triangle or Y and tap the bumper button corresponding to that weapon. When done correctly, your character will start wielding their weapon with both hands. Repeat the process to go back to single-hand wielding.
Two-handing weapons will make you a lot more agile while dealing more damage. The only reason not to two-hand weapons constantly is that you’re not going to be able to parry bosses unless you have a shield. Some bosses, like Red Wolf or Ragadon, can be completed two-handed, and don’t require a shield. If you have a weapon like a bow or a catalyst, it’s better to two-hand those as well.
With this in mind, we’d recommend you two hand your weapons if you’re able to get away with it. Staying agile and dodging attacks is generally more useful than blocking, anyway. Otherwise, remember that you can always swap your weapon grip at will. Hold Triangle or Y, then press either the left or right bumper for your left or right weapon. You may be surprised which armaments can be wielded with two hands, too — you can use two hands to hold your shield, if you’d like.
