Elden Ring Map Fragment Locations | Where to Find

Elden Ring Map Fragment Locations List - Where to Find

Elden Ring is an enormous game. Getting across the land takes time, even if you know where you’re going. However, you won’t have any idea where you’re going until you collect a map fragment. These items fill out your in-game map, providing crucial details about terrain and points of interest.

Naturally, they’re among the first things you’ll want to locate when you reach a new area. The catch is that their locations, too, are a mystery until uncovered. Luckily for you, precious Tarnished, we can help. Here’s where to find each and every map fragment in Elden Ring.

Where to Find All Map Fragments in Elden Ring

Elden Ring Stele

Map fragments in Elden Ring are found upon steles, which are basically just stone columns. You can tell these steles apart from other structures due to the glowing items resting beneath their engravings. And, unlike most other landmarks, steles become visible on the blank portions of the in-game map once you get close by.

However, the path to these steles isn’t always straightforward. It’s true that most are sitting out in the open, but actually reaching them may involve backtracking or making use of unknown passageways. That’s why in addition to locations, we’ve made sure to explain how to reach specific map fragments, where needed.

Limgrave

Elden Ring Limgrave West map fragment location

The starting area of Limgrave has two map fragments. The Limgrave West map fragment is in the middle of the Gatefront Ruins encampment. It’s a short ride up the road north of where you first emerge from the Cave of Knowledge. Watch out for the soldier with a horn; if he spots you, he’ll alert the entire camp to your presence.

Elden Ring Limgrave East map fragment location

The Limgrave East map fragment is located further east, near the Minor Erdtree. To get there, you’ll need to follow the road east from Gatefront Ruins. At the fork, follow the road as it curves north and then east again until you reach the valley. From there, cut east-southeast through the forest. You’ll know you’re in the right area when you spot the Erdtree map marker.

Weeping Peninsula

Elden Ring Weeping Peninsula map fragment location

The Weeping Peninsula is a small area on the southern end of Limgrave. You may have been urged toward its location by the stranded lord of Castle Morne. Either way, you shouldn’t have any trouble finding it. The Weeping Peninsula map fragment is right off the main path, just past the Grace Point at Castle Morne Rampart.

Liurnia

Elden Ring Liurnia East map fragment location

Once you’ve reached beyond the Stormveil Gate, you’ll find yourself overlooking the Lake of Liurnia. The area’s first map fragment is a short ride north from the Lake Facing Cliffs. Follow the lake shore west, then turn north toward the Laskyar ruins. The Liurnia East map fragment is a short distance south of the ruins.

Elden Ring Liurnia North map fragment location

To find the next stele, head due north. You’ll soon spot a broken bridge and a series of ruined structures. This is the remains of Academy Gate Town. The Liurnia North map fragment is located a short ways away from the area’s Grace point.

Elden Ring Liurnia West map fragment location

The third and final fragment is quite a bit farther away. To get there, you’ll need to follow the road running north along the western coast until you reach the Northern Liurnia Lake Shore. You’ll find the Liurnia West map a short distance away from the western cliff.

Dragonbarrow

Elden Ring Dragonbarrow map fragment location

Dragonbarrow, as its name suggests, is a dangerous place. You’ll reach it naturally if you continue on the road out of Limgrave as it swings back north out of Caelid. However, you can also take the north road right out of Limgrave, run along the beach, and arrive at a new segment of northern road beyond the gorge. If you go that route, be sure to stop by the Grace point slightly downhill at Dragonbarrow West. Then, follow the road east to find the Dragonbarrow map fragment.

Caelid

Elden Ring Caelid map fragment location

The realm of Caelid lies directly to the east of Limgrave. You’ll eventually see the area’s signature smoldering embers as you follow the road away from Stormveil.

To find the Caelid map fragment, you’ll need to follow that main path as it curves south. You’ll pass both Caelid Waypoint Ruins and the Caelid Highway South Grace point before you spot the stele at the fork in the road.

Altus Plateau

Elden Ring Altus Plateau map fragment location

The Altus Plateau is one of the game’s most dangerous open areas. You’d normally reach it by activating the Grand Lift of Dectus, though you could also take the path through the Ruin-Strewn Precipice.

Either way, to find the Altus Plateau map fragment, you’ll need to start from the northern end of the Grand Lift of Dectus. From there, follow the big road northeast until it forks, then take the northern path. The road will then curve upward, which will make it easy to spot the stele.

Leyndell, Royal Capital

Elden Ring Leyndell Royal Capital map fragment location

Once you’ve made it to the Altus Plateau, you’re not far from the Royal Capital. Leyndell is a war-torn mess, but thankfully, you won’t have to dive too far in to spot the stele.

The Leyndell Royal Capital map fragment is right in the middle of the main road. It basically marks the intersection. Follow the road east from the Dectus Lift, and you can’t miss it.

Mt. Gelmir

Elden Ring Mt. Gelmir broken road

Of all the map fragments on this list, the Mt. Gelmir fragment is perhaps the most difficult to find organically. The area is a maze of cliffs and points-of-interest at alternating elevations. To make matters worse, the main road leading up to the peak is broken.

As it turns out, you can’t simply walk to Mt. Gelmir. Instead, you need to climb. Follow the road from the Bridge of Iniquity west until you spot spiked barricades. If you get attacked by wolves or invaded at the Corpse-Stench Shack, you’ve gone too far.

Among the wooden defenses you’ll see a lone ladder climbing up the cliff wall. Follow it up, then climb several more ladders until you reach the summit. Ignore the instinct to summon your horse Torrent and use the Spiritspring; you’ll be attacked immediately if you do. Instead, take the long ladder, sneak around the beast, then drop back down.

After that, the rest is relatively easy. Follow the path even farther west, then carefully climb down the cliff. The Mt. Gelmir map fragment can be found just underneath a rocky outcropping not far from the nearby Grace point. Be careful, though: This area guarded by freaky finger spiders that hide and burrow underground, so watch where you step.

Ainsel River

Elden Ring Ainsel River Well overworld location

Surprise! Elden Ring also has underground maps, because the above-ground world just wasn’t big enough. The first underground area you’re likely to encounter (or rather survive) is the Ainsel River. However, getting there first involves finding the lift which will take you down to the cave system.

For that, you’ll want to start from Grace point at Lake-Facing Cliff in Liurnia. Turn north, then use the giant tombstones to step down the cliff. From there, follow the path all the way north to its terminal point at the Ainsel River Well.

Once you’ve descended, the rest is simple. Turn left through the cave, then fight your way toward the Uhl Palace Ruins. Find the passage beyond going northwest into the large chamber, where you’ll be bombarded with magic attacks. If you want, sneak up the broken column and scramble the cliff side to reach a platform behind the monster to dispatch it safely. You’ll find the Ainsel River map fragment below where the beast hangs, not in front of a stele, but in front of a regular stone pillar.

Siofra River

Elden Ring Sofria River Well overworld location

You may stumble upon the Siofra River Well location while exploring Limgrave. It’s in a forest not too far from the starting area. In fact, it’s just a short ways away from where you found the area’s eastern fragment.

Head to the well, then use the lift to descend. After arriving, turn left, then follow the wall north until you spot water flowing through a dam. Proceed through the nearby door, then take the lift up to the top of the dam.

From here you can simply follow the water east, then turn north to reach a Grace point. From the Grace point, turn east once more to spot a giant stairway. The Siofra River map fragment is located on a corpse sitting at the foot of the stairway.

Mountaintops of the Giants – West and East

After defeating Morgott, The Omen King, you’ll finally be able to access to the Mountaintops of the Giants. The Maiden will give you the Rold Medallion, which is used to operate the lift, taking you to this end-game area.

The Mountaintops of the Giants West map fragment is simple enough to find. After stepping off the lift, simply trek along the main path. Once you’re near Giant’s Gravepost, find a chain link bridge, which will lead you to the wast map fragment.

The Mountaintops of the Giants East map fragment is a lot more tricky. For this one, you’ll need to take a circuitous path through the canyon, sprint across the lake, and then use a Spiritspring to reach a high cliff. Once atop the cliff, you need to turn south and cross another chain bridge before you’ll spot the map stele.

Elden Ring Mountaintops of the Giants East map fragment location and directions

The big struggle here is the lake — once you reach the lake, you’ll have to sprint through it totally blind. Snow and fog reduce visibility to practically zero. To make matters worse, a dragon will attack halfway across the lake. Just keep running southeast until you reach the First Church of Marika. From there, you can rest at the Site of Grace, then continue westward until you find the Spiritspring upward. If you need help, follow the directions in the image featured above.

Consecrated Snowfield

Elden Ring Consecrated Snowfield map fragment location

The Consecrated Snowfield is the hidden side area of the Mountaintops of the Giants. It’s only accessible once you find both halves of the Haligtree Secret Medallion. The first half can be found in the Village of the Albinaurics in Liurnia. For the second, you’ll need to take out Commander Niall at Castle Sol in the Mountaintops of the Giants. Unite both pieces at the Grand Lift of Rold, and you’ll end up at the Consecrated Snowfield.

After that, the rest is simple. From the lift, head due north and make your way toward the frozen field. You’ll know you’re in the right area once the terrain levels out. The Consecrated Snowfield map fragment is located just beyond the frozen river, just a bit south of Ordina, Liturgical Town.

Lake of Rot

Elden Ring Lake of Rot map fragment location

The Lake of Rot fragment is hard to miss. The only real trick is that you need to reach the area to begin with. If you’re unsure how to find it, take on Ranni’s questline, and it will eventually lead you to the Ainsel River Main. Once you’ve made it there, keep your eyes out for a coffin. All you need to do is lie in the coffin, as it’ll send you down a disgusting waterfall. After you’ve arrived in the area proper, head toward the lake itself to find the Lake of Rot map fragment at the shore.

Deeproot Depths

Elden Ring Deeproot Depths map fragment location

To get this map fragment, you’ll obviously first need to gain access to Deeproot Depths. Once you’ve made it there, you’ll have to cross the massive roots populating the area. The main root cluster crosses a wide chasm; on the western side you’ll see a Site of Grace. Rest there, then turn north. You’ll see a massive waterfall that appears to run off into nothing. Head that direction, and you’ll find the Deeproot Depths map fragment in the middle of the shallow body of water.

Mohgwyn Palace

Elden Ring Mohgwyn Palace map fragment location

There are a few ways to reach Mohgwyn Palace, but the easiest way is to take the teleporter from the Consecrated Snowfield. To get there, head to the far western side of the area. You’ll be stopped by an invader called Sanguine Noble. Once he’s been defeated, the teleporter will become active. Use it, and you’ll be transported to Mohgwyn Palace.

Once you’re there, make your way northwest and follow the cliff wall around the area. If you keep following the cliff wall around the lake of blood, you’ll eventually encounter mages who summon giant skeletons. These foes guard the entrance to the palace proper, and they’re your sign that you’re in the right area. Continue westward until you find a corpse. Loot it to find the Mohgwyn Palace map fragment.

However, be warned: After you find the map fragment, don’t proceed any further unless you’re ready to fight Mohg. He’s is not far from where the map fragment is found. Even if you are ready to fight him, make sure to farm the White Mask nearby first — the opportunity disappears once Mohg is defeated.

This concludes our list of all map fragment locations in Elden Ring. The Lands Between are frankly massive, so don’t feel a need to rush through things. Nearly all of the map fragments are located close to main paths, and you should spot them if you explore thoroughly enough. Still, finding them all is no small feat. Good luck out there, Tarnished.
