Margit is a big boss, which makes him a bit slower than other bosses. They say, the bigger they are the harder they fall. That is absolutely true with Margit. His size slows him down in speed which gives you the upper hand in knowing when he will strike an attack and how he is going to strike it. This gives you the time to think and dodge the incoming attack and keep slashing him from behind.
Another way to defend yourself against Margit pretty well is by using your shield and time his attacks in order to counterattack and stun him when he tries to inflict damage. Once he is stunned you will have the opportunity do a critical hit on him which will probably take about 10% of his health in one hit.
When Margit reaches below 50% health I would recommend, calling allied wolves or any other types of allies to aid you in battle. While your allies are there you can move around as he is taunted by them. This will give you the upper hand to heal yourself or even inflict more damage without him attacking you.
