Although the spooky feeling can appear anywhere to those looking for it, there’s one month when it’s expected. As October starts to wind up, Halloween fast approaches. So too does the desire for scary movies and games to play. Epic Games is getting in on this by giving away several major titles that will be free to download this week. Since the holiday lands on the coming Monday, you’ll have until around then to get all of these titles into your library. Just remember that some will be disappearing faster than others.

The Epic Games Store free games for this month include Fallout 3: Game Of The Year Edition, Evoland Legendary Edition, Saturnalia, and Warhammer 40k: Mechanicus.
Fallout 3
The prospect of the world under the effects of fallout is as horrifying as is it fascinating. Hence we have the Fallout series by Bethesda Softworks with Fallout 3: GOTY Edition as one of its crowning jewels. As the first fully 3D entry in the franchise, it had a lot to live up to. Thankfully, the team did a great job. You’re born in a Vault, a secure place meant to protect inhabitants from the devastation outside. However, when your father abandons the Vault, you have to chase after him and brave the Wasteland outside. As your character grows, you’ll use whatever you can find to defend yourself, hunt down mutant creatures, and try to make a living in what remains of the world.
Evoland: Legendary Edition
Nostalgia is a powerful thing, but it’s not necessarily used to show in-game progress. This is what Shiro Games tries to do with the Evoland series, which is now fully contained in the Evoland Legendary Edition. As a typical RPG hero, you are sent on a quest to stop evil and save the world. The twist comes in the mechanics that are available to you as time goes on. You’ll start in basic top-down 2D with limited controls. Before long, you’ll have access to more dimensions and more actions. This in itself becomes a mechanic as you need to switch between the different graphical styles in order to make progress.
Saturnalia
The clunky and rigid moves and looks of old PS1 titles have led to a resurgence of games using that style to create horror. While more detailed and developed than that, Saturnalia by Santa Ragione still packs some scares. Taking a book from classic horror films, you play as a cast of characters stranded in a mysterious village. With nothing better to do, your curiosity will guide you to investigate the history of the town and the strange rituals that took place. Each character is fragile in their own way, and just one mistake could spell death. Should you wipe out the whole cast, the village will rearrange itself should you try again.
Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus
No one knows what the far future holds, which means that perpetual warfare is a possibility. This is explored in Warhammer 40k which has created numerous board games and video games, including Mechanicus by Bulwark Games. You take control of an elite and technologically advanced fighting force known as the Adeptus Mechanicus. With their units under your control, you must explore a dangerous planet in a part of space full of a vicious species called the Necron. To ensure you survive this expedition, you’ll need to keep your units healthy and upgraded with all the latest equipment. It’s a turn-based strategy game where every decision counts, both on the battlefield and off. So, make sure that you choose wisely while taking risks where you can.
