GamesIndustry.biz has the numbers: Fifa 22 and Mario Kart 8: Deluxe topped the final video game sales charts of 2021.
Fifa 22 wore the crown for the week ending December 25th, undoubtedly boosted due to holiday demand. Sales fell over 63%, however, per GamesIndustry.biz the following week. That earned it a spot at 2nd on the list ending January 1st, only losing out to the behemoth that is Mario Kart 8: Deluxe.
Judging by the numbers for that second chart, it appeared to be a Nintendo Switch heavy Christmas for most. Nintendo saw five releases appear: Mario Kart, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, Minecraft (Switch), and Mario Party Superstars.
Apologies to Pokémon Shining Pearl, I guess.
This isn’t the first time Mario Kart 8 has topped the charts recently in the UK; it was the country’s best-selling Black Friday game.
As a reminder, this is only a list of boxed physical copies. Digital data is not available.
The NPD should release US sales data within the next week or so.
Here’s the complete look at the final Top Ten lists of the year.
