FIX Dread Hunger: Fatal Error, Can’t Launch & Crashing On PC

It’s common knowledge among the PC community that troubleshooting games is the absolute worst. Instead of spending what little free time you have playing games, you’re instead scouring the internet for that one video or how-to that will help you fix your problems and get you back in the game. We go through all of the proven fixes for Dread Hunger particularly for fatal errors, crashes, and the game not launching.

Fix Fatal Error, Can’t Launch & Crashing On PC – Dread Hunger

Let’s start off with something simple that surprisingly a lot of people overlook. Can your PC handle the game? Developers usually release the requirements needed to play their game before launch so people avoid buying a game their PC can’t handle.

Here’s the minimum requirements you need in order to run Dread Hunger:

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 7
  • Processor: Quad-core Intel or AMD, 2.5 GHz
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 760 GTX or AMD Radeon R9 280

If your PC meets the minimum requirements, then let’s move on to the next solution.

Verify Integrity of Game Files

When installing games, things can happen in your PC that causes the installation to miss a couple of important files, or even corrupt them. The best way to fix this issue without having to reinstall everything is to verify the game files through Steam. To do that, follow these steps:

  1. Launch Steam and go to your Library.
  2. Right click on Dread Hunger and select Properties.
  3. Click the Local Files option on the left side, then click Verify Integrity of Game Files.

Let Steam do its thing and wait for it to finish. If you’re still experiencing issues, then we move on to the next solution.

Out-of-date GPU Drivers

Another common problem that can easily be fixed is outdated GPU drivers. NVIDIA and AMD both have software dedicated to their GPU’s, but I will be using the AMD Radeon Software as I myself am using an AMD GPU. Here’s how to update your drivers:

  1. Launch Radeon Software.
  2. Click on the Home tab.
  3. On the right side, there should be a Driver & Software box. Click Check for Updates and wait for the software to update your driver.

If you’re still experiencing errors, then we have to do the last resort.

NOTE: If you’re using a Nvidia GPU or even AMD, you can also update the graphics drivers through the Windows Update feature.

Reinstall the Game

Yeah, I know. If all the basic troubleshooting steps don’t work, then reinstalling Dread Hunger is your best bet.

But if that doesn’t work either, then it’s best to try launching the game as administrator, adding a controlled folder access exception for Dread Hunger or contacting support.
