Fortnite is full of ways to enjoy the game. From playing with a controller, playing on a keyboard, or even playing on your phone if you want to. But no matter which platform you use, sound is important to gameplay. You can’t win a firefight if you can’t hear where your enemy is. Luckily for you, Fortnite has a way to show you footsteps, gunshots, explosions, and all sounds in the game, visually. Here’s how to toggle visualized sound.
How to See Footsteps in Fortnite
To see footsteps in Fortnite, you need to enable an option called “Visualize Sound Effects” in the settings menu. With this, you’ll be able to play at any volume, and all sound effects will appear on the radar around your character. It’s a handy tool for those who can’t play with sound on, or anyone who often plays with the volume turned down low.
If you want to turn this setting on, here’s how to do it. First, head into your options menu. From there, you’re going to want to shift over to the tab that looks like a speaker. This is your audio settings for the game. Once you’re there, underneath the sliders for volume, you’ll see an option labeled “Visualize Sound Effects.” Turn that on. Now that visualized sound effects are on, you’ll be able to see footsteps visually. Just remember that this applies to all sounds you’re meant to hear.
Of course, not all sound effects are shown to you. For example, if you find yourself against an enemy who’s crouching, you won’t be able to visualize their footsteps. Another example of the visualization of the sound effects not working properly is that if you get too far away from a teammate, their gunfire will appear on your heads-up display.
It’s simple to visualize footsteps in Fortnite with this new setting. Originally, it was only included in the mobile version of Fortnite, since players would most likely not be able to play with the sound on. However, with the closing of the mobile entry, Epic Games decided to include this function in all versions of the game as an accessibility feature.
