Battle royale behemoth Fortnite is currently down for the second time in as many days. Epic Games’ pop culture sensation seems to be struggling to manage the post-holidays surge of players, leaving many unable to redeem the free Winterfest rewards. It’s undoubtedly a problem for one of the biggest games out there, so when will these Fortnite outages come to an end?
Fortnite Winterfest Delayed by Outages
Yes, on both December 29 and 30, the Fortnite servers have tanked. At first, there were slight issues with matchmaking. However, this has since expanded to players left unable to connect to the game at all.
While outages are never ideal in a live-service game, these problems are coming at a critical time for Fortnite. December 29 marked the fourteenth day of the Winterfest event, where the final free gift became available. This was previously locked and inaccessible, saved for this big day. However, these outages mean many cannot redeem this gift. Equally, December 30 is the final day to purchase the No Way Home-themed Spider-Man skin. This timed item will leave the Item Shop tomorrow, so last-minute buyers could be unable to get it.
However, the good news is that it seems like Epic Games is on the case. Yesterday’s outage was reasonably fleeting, lasting around seven hours. Equally, the current outage already appears to be on its way to resolution, as login privileges are slowly restored across the board. While these fixes are happening reasonably quickly, players will still hope that Epic are getting to the bottom of the issues to prevent them reoccurring.
As such, Fortnite players will want to check their own game as soon as possible. If the servers are to go down again, goodies like the Spider-Man skin and final Winterfest reward could be at risk, so it’s a good idea to nab them while you can.
