The 30 series of graphics cards are now officially old news. NVIDIA has officially unveiled the GeForce RTX 40 series of video cards. The all-new GeForce RTX 4090 and GeForce RTX 4080 are advertised as being up to four times as fast as other video games.

The press release specifically says that “gaming performance in the latest titles rockets by up to 2X, and by harnessing DLSS 3 and new Ada innovations, developers can boost performance by up to 4X in fully ray-traced titles. In creative apps, GeForce RTX 40 Series graphics cards provide up to 2X the performance in 3D rendering, video export speed, and AI tools.”

Price points were also made available for the new GeForce RTX 40 series. A GeForce RTX 4080 will start at $899. It will be available sometime in November. The GeForce RTX 4090 will start at $1,599 and release on October 12th. NVIDIA’s Ada Lovelace architecture powers both cards.

It was also announced as an update to Portal that features Ray Tracing and NVIDIA DLSS 3.

In addition, the tools that were used to make Portal with RTX will be released to the public for free. The NVIDIA RTX Remix will be available as a modding platform to add ray tracing to help remaster classic titles.

There’s a lot to love with today’s GeForce RTX 40 news. The RTX Remix mod tools sound like they open the door for limitless potential for the modding community. The graphics cards themselves, however, still feel like they’ll be a pipedream to obtain thanks to the crypto craze.
