The world of Genshin Impact is chock full of monsters, big and small, to slay. If you’re looking for a particularly rotund fight, then Geovishap hatchlings are your target. These little rolling buddies are not as vulnerable as the word “hatchling” might have you think; they’re a boss encounter! However, they’re necessary to kill to gather ascension materials and advance the game’s story. So, if you’re looking for them, you’ve come to the right place.
Where to Find Geovishap Hatchlings
You can find Geovishap hatchlings in a variety of places. Most notably, you can find them at the Stone Gate (across the road from the man with a sick wife) and in Dihua Marsh (under a tree near a house). Later on, in Tianqiu Valley, you should find a couple near the main teleporter, and some near the slope of the hill south of the teleporter. Finally, in Guyun Stone Forest you’ll find a small island to the south with these critters, and if you go as far west as you can, you’ll find some more in Huaguang Stone Forest.
These guys are actually a pretty tough fight, but there are some relatively easy ways to take them out. When they burrow, they spawn two Geo shards. Collecting these will provide you a shield which stuns the monster temporarily. That’s enough time for some free hits! Because of that, if you want to specialize in taking these down, bring someone who can hit really hard in a short burst of time… Maybe a character with longer cooldowns?
Now, the loot that you get for killing these monsters (other than quest objectives) are the Bone Shard Ascension materials. The rarity increases at level 40 and 60, up to Fossilized Bone Shards. Good for ascending your weapons! These are the only guys that drop those (but only at level 60). So, once you get to the end game, farm these dudes to your heart’s content!
