Genshin Impact | What is Elemental Mastery?

Elemental Mastery

Genshin Impact is an action RPG at heart, so that means a ton of stats to look after! The game lowers the emphasis on things like speed or initiative… But some stats are mind-boggling. For example, Elemental Mastery? What does that even mean? It’s completely separated from attack, but it’s a damage stat… Why? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

What is Elemental Mastery in Genshin Impact?

Elemental Mastery is basically your “special damage” stat, so your stat for your Reactions. So, your elemental combinations get a damage increase. Vaporize and Melt deals more, Overloaded, Superconduct, Electro-Charged, Shattered, and Swirl deals much more, and shields also get extra health.

Vaporize and Melt (Water + Pyro / Ice + Pyro) don’t get much of a damage increase from this. If you like the high single-target damage that this does, you’re better off looking at Attack.

The more complicated and Damage Over Time effects are multiplied a lot more. Overloaded, Superconduct, Electro-Charged, Shattered, and Swirl increase by almost three times as much as Vaporize and Melt. If you’ve found yourself casting those effects (usually with the Lightning effect), then you might want to boost Elemental Mastery.

Crystallize gives a big shield. With high elemental mastery, it can grow even bigger! This requires a Geo element and one other element. The second element gives higher damage resistance against that specific element, so use your knowledge of the monster to defend yourself. This also means high elemental mastery will make your character even tankier.

These elemental reactions are crucial in raids and Abyssal Domains, where the special effects of monsters will trigger until their area of effect is dispelled. Try to figure out what elemental reactions work best on your character! For example, Lisa really likes Lightning, so she is better at using Reactions like Electro-Charged and Superconducts, a great way to use her high Mastery!
