Ghost of Tsushima was already one of the best samurai RPGs around. Now, with Legends, we’ve got some more content and new recourses to look after. Perhaps the most common and most strange of these is the Essence mechanic. This Ghost of Tsushima: Legends currency is as vague as it is useful. It’s going to be one of the most important aspects of the new game mode. So, let’s talk about it!
What is the Essence Currency in Ghost of Tsushima: Legends
Essence is the most common of the three new recourses, so it’s also the one used the most. It’s primarily used for unlocking perks and expanding your skill trees. Tangentially, it’s used to unlock new classes, so make sure you get a ton of it!
The best way to get Essence in Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is just… playing the game! Essence is dropped when you complete missions or complete challenges. Of course, the daily/weekly stuff is more valuable than the rewards for completing missions.
That being said, this is also used, along with Shrines and Honor, to reforge weapons. So, don’t dump all of your Essence into your perks right off the bat. You’ll want to keep some of it, because reforging weapons can vastly increase your power and transform its value. You can get a ton of extra damage out of a reforge, since they can reroll weapon qualities.
But, perks are also really powerful and unlock additional classes. So, what should you spend Essence on? We recommend starting with perks and saving a handful for rerolls. Perks are really important for progressing the class tables or skill trees.
Legends is the newest content update for Ghost of Tsushima. This update vastly increases the replayability of the game, adding a co-op story campaign to the mix. There are some loot elements and currency elements, just to increase the amount of time you can sink into this frankly fantastic game. Give it a try, if you’ve dropped Ghost after you beat the main game!
