The recent Shroom and Doom update for Grounded brought along some new features and tools for players to explore. Not only is the map expanded, but your crafting options now have more range with the new oven and grinder items. To assemble the Oven, you’re going to need some charcoal chunks, and only one area has them. Keep reading to find out where you can locate them.
Where to Find Charcoal Chunks in Grounded
To find charcoal chunks in Grounded, you’re going to need to head to the grill located near the Koi Pond. You’ll be able to find one chunk on the ground next to the knocked-over grill, and two other chunks on top of the rock wall. Once you find them, you’ll need an Insect Hammer to break the chunks up. The ones along the ground will be easy to get, while the ones on the wall will take a bit more time.
It’s important to note that the charcoal grill location has moved as of the Shroom and Doom update. It used to be located towards the fence on the western portion of the map but is now near the Koi Pond. Walk among the grass until you reach the edge of the grill, see map above. There will be two charcoal chunks on the ground, just sitting there and waiting to be hammered away. Do note that you only get one charcoal per resource, so come back in seven in-game days when they respawn.
To get up on the rock wall, you’ll need to the left of the grill until you find a break in the wall near the shed. This will allow you to get up on the wall and you can follow it all the way to the grill. Alternatively, you can just build ramps up to the grill if you have the materials.
At the time of writing, these are the only charcoal chunk locations in the game, but it is possible more will be added with future updates. Making the journey to gather up charcoal chunks isn’t a one-and-done deal. If you prefer to be more on the stealthy side, it’s best to come equipped with weapons and armor. You will likely run into Mosquitoes and Sting Bugs, so keep that in mind when you’re out in the wild.
That’s pretty much it when it comes to finding the charcoal chunks. These are essential for your crafting needs, and with a charcoal chunk (x1), clay (x10), and boiling glands (x4) you can finally build your Oven. At the moment, you can only smelt the Broodmother BLT and the Mushroom Brick.
The developers are still constructing more areas, so it’s very likely we’ll see more charcoal chunks spawn as they continue to form their game. We’ll be on the lookout for any strange findings in the meantime. Until then, stay safe – the backyard is a dangerous place to be.
