It’s pretty rare that you’ll find yourself without a gun in Grand Theft Auto 5 and Online. And if you find yourself without one, then you’ll probably be better off bailing. But, every now and then, you’ll find yourself in a melee brawl. And when this happens, you’re going to want to reduce damage to yourself as much as possible! If you can’t run away, or want to throw hands, you’ll have to learn how to dodge punches. This guide is here to help you avoid getting your face pummeled.
How to Dodge Punches in GTA 5
If you want to dodge punches in GTA 5, you’ll need to pay close attention to your opponent. If you are not currently throwing a punch, you can hit the button assigned to dodge. Normally, this is the same button that would allow you to jump if you weren’t in a brawl. Then, you can counterattack with a swift punch of your own if your dodge is successful.
Melee combat in GTA 5 and Online is… stiff, to say the least. You’ll want to lock on to a single enemy. Usually, this is the same button that would normally aim a weapon; bumpers on controllers, right mouse on keyboard. This will make your character start swinging for the fences, but in the direction of your enemy. It’ll also make it significantly easier to dodge your foe’s attacks. At the very least, the counter attacks will land better.
There are some melee weapons in the game, such as the knife or bat. The difference in damage is fairly significant. If you’re allowed to, try to bring a knife to a fist fight. You’ll still be able to dodge or strike like usual, but you’ll deal legitimate damage which can help you clear an encounter.
This stuff all applies to 5 or Online, so feel free to bring this advice to either game! However, you should know that you’ll probably get lit up for running up to someone, fists out – especially in Online.
Hopefully, this’ll help you win fist fights! Check out some of our other guides.
