GTA V online functionality is the one thing that’s kept the game relevant all these years. With thousands of updates and plenty of new rides to roll around in, having a cool car in GTA Online is all players want. But, something that you can hold above all other players, is having a car with a custom license plate. The thing is, there’s nothing in-game to show you how this is done. There’s good reason for it: To create a custom license plate, you’ll have to actually leave the game entirely.
How to Get a Custom License Plate in GTA Online
Custom license plates in GTA Online require the use the iFruit app on real-world mobile devices. To get one of your own, you’ll have to download the app and link it to your Rockstar account. It’s a bit of a hassle, but the reward of having a license plate say your name, or anything you want, is pretty great.
First, download the iFruit app onto your real-life cellphone or tablet. It’s a companion app for your GTA Online experience. Once you have that downloaded, be sure to connect it to your Rockstar Social Club account, as you won’t be able to get your custom license plate without it.
Then, you’re going to need to enter the Los Santos Customs App inside of iFruit. Click on the Plates tab, and you’ll be given the opportunity to customize your own plate. However, you’re limited to only eight characters on a plate. You can also customize the background and color of the plate as well. Once you’re complete, you can assign a license plate to whatever GTA Online character you want.
Once that’s done, boot up GTA Online and start online with that character. If all goes well, you’ll receive an in-game text stating that your custom plate is ready. After that, it’s all about going to Los Santos Customs in-game, going to your plates tab, and choosing your new custom license plate.
And there you have it, you now have a custom license plate in GTA Online. It may have taken a while, but it was well worth the work. While you’re customizing things, be sure to grab a pair of Airpods!
