Hogwarts Legacy Co-Op - Is There Multiplayer?

The Harry Potter-based RPG Hogwarts Legacy aims to be the definitive experience for fans of the Wizarding World. Namely, it allows players to live out their fantasies as a student at Hogwarts. Of course, it wouldn’t be a school of magic without other classmates to share it with. But that begs an important question: Are there other player-controlled magicians roaming throughout the game? Is there co-op or multiplayer in Hogwarts Legacy?

Does Hogwarts Legacy Have Co-Op Multiplayer?

Does Hogwarts Legacy Have Co-Op Multiplayer?

Hogwarts Legacy does not have co-op multiplayer. In fact, it doesn’t have multiplayer of any kind. According to the developers, “Hogwarts Legacy is a single-player experience and does not have online or co-op gameplay.”

For better or worse, that means you’re only ever going to be able to play solo. You simply won’t be able to explore the world of Hogwarts with other human players. With that said, it’s not like your character will be alone. The game is still going to allow players to build relationships with other students in-game. Those companions will accompany you on your adventure and help open up new parts of the story.

The main difference here is that companions aren’t player-controlled characters. Instead, your allies as well as all other characters you encounter will be NPCs.

This and many other details were revealed over on the official Hogwarts Legacy FAQ page. The FAQ page is ripe with other questions that show how far the developers have committed to the Wizarding World. When asked if the game is going to adhere to the lore, the developers responded by saying, “While Hogwarts Legacy is not a direct adaptation of the books and films, the games are anchored in Wizarding World lore.” As such, you can expect a few deviations from the media you’ve seen previously. Given that the game is set in the 1800s, that may not come as much of a surprise.
