Enthusiasts of the Harry Potter books and films can most likely recall the Black family motto with ease. Some of us playing Hogwarts Legacy, however, aren’t as well-versed in the franchise’s lore as we probably should be. Especially given that we’re playing as fifth-year students. Regardless if you are or not, your knowledge will be tested during the main story mission, “The Polyjuice Plot,” when we go undercover as Professor Black. During this quest, your knowledge of their family motto will be tested. So, what is the right answer? Read on to find out!
What is the Black Family Motto in Hogwarts Legacy?
The Black family Motto in Hogwarts Legacy is, “It’s to do with purity of blood”. You’ll need to know this for The Polyjuice Plot mission when you go undercover as Professor Black. Because again, as you may or may not be aware, while the Polyjuice Potion will disguise you as whoever you’re thinking of, it doesn’t grant you their thoughts or memories. That stuff you have to make up on the fly.
Moving on, during this quest you’ll have to speak with Scrope, the Black family house elf, in the Great Hall to get into the headmaster’s office. It’s here when he tests your knowledge of the Black Family Motto. However, as you may have already found out, it’s not dire if you do happen to choose the other two wrong dialogue options. Either way, he informs you that the Black family motto is “Toujours Pur”, which is French for “Always Pure”. As a result, the right dialogue option to pick is, “It’s to do with purity of blood”.
The meaning of this refers to Muggle blood and wizard blood. If you’re uninformed, a muggle is someone who doesn’t possess any magical capabilities, as in you or I. On that note, the Black family strongly feels that Muggle blood and wizard blood shouldn’t mix. Instead, they wanted wizard blood to stay pure, hence the Black family motto “Toujours Pur” – “Always Pure”.
