Those in the gaming industry know that release dates are subject to constant fluctuation, but that doesn’t reduce the outrage. Today, the gaming community is feeling annoyed that the team behind Hollow Knight is sharing some unfortunate news. The much anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong which was announced what seems like ages ago, has been delayed once again. Despite all the available footage and updates surrounding the game, there is still no confirmed release date or even an estimation of when it might be ready. While development continues, it’s likely that the game will continue to tease us with any details the devs decide to share.
Hollow Knight: Silksong Delayed
Team Cherry released the artistic, challenging, and lore-rich 2D platformer Hollow Knight in 2017 to praise across the board. In 2019, an announcement was made for a sequel entitled Hollow Knight: Silksong and many got instantly excited. Yet, here we are nearly five years later, and the game is still in development — and having been delayed once again.
A tweet by Matthew Griffin, involved with marketing and publishing the project, explained that development is continuing due to the game being larger than expected, and the team wanting to perfect it as much as possible. While this shows dedication and consideration, one can only hope that the game is in its final stretch.
Hollow Knight presents a beautifully hand-drawn and well-animated universe with a somber and gothic tone. It follows its unnamed beetle-like knight as they explore the various areas of a once mighty underground society. During their journey, they repeatedly clash with a female knight known as Hornet, who is unsurprisingly the star of Hollow Knight: Silksong. The game details promise all-new content including a new world, new enemies, and new mechanics to master. With the delay, people now have more time to go back to the first game and hone their skills.
A lot of work went into Hollow Knight and it looks like even more work is going into its sequel. Although Hollow Knight: Silksong’s early 2023 release has been delayed, we are at least getting closer to its final launch.
