Among Us is one of the hottest titles in video games right now. As such, loads of new players are interested in trying it out. The news is good: Aside from PC and mobile phones, you can also play Among Us on Chromebook. Best of all, you can get it on ChromeOS entirely for free. Here’s what you need to know.
How to Play Among Us on Chromebook
You can download and play Among Us on Chromebook for free through the Google Play Store. However, there are two caveats: Your Chromebook must support Android apps, and your user account must have permission to install software.
First things first: Your device must support Android apps. Most newer Chromebooks will, but older devices may not. It will be up to you to determine if your Chromebook is compatible. Also, since the game must be installed from the Play Store, your user account needs permission to install applications. This should only really be a restriction for child or student accounts.
Assuming your Chromebook is compatible with Android apps, you may need to enable installations from the Google Play Store. This is easy: Click on the status bar in the lower right, then click the Settings cog wheel. On the left of the screen, tap Apps. Find the listing to install apps from the Google Play Store and make sure the option is turned on.
From there, installation is a breeze. First, load up the Google Play Store and search for Among Us. Alternatively, use this link to open the game’s Play Store page. Once there, click the Install button. It’s about a 72 megabyte download, so you shouldn’t be waiting for long.
Once the game is installed, a shortcut will appear in your apps folder. Depending on your device, the shortcut may simply appear on your desktop. Tap or double click on it to play Among Us on your Chromebook. Pro tip: If your device doesn’t have a touch screen, you can change the input scheme in settings. You’ll want to use the “Touch” option, confusingly enough — it will simulate touch controls with the mouse. Enjoy.
